Using D6220 as access point but cant log in and config

I recently changed my d6220 to an access point due to issues with YouView TV. I have since lost access to the genie app on my phone but can access the d6220 from the genie app on my laptop. The ip of the router is 192.168.1.72 and when I try and connect to the device it fails. What am I doing wrong?

Dark forces at work and I have no idea how this happened but could have been my error. I noticed the ethernet cable was plugged into the lan port next to the red lan port. I swapped them and reset the router and I now have access. Thanks for all your help and having a community like this is very valuable.

Re: Using D6220 as access point but cant log in and config
Hello @Coullio1971,
If you recently set your D6220 as an access point, what is the router/modem that it is hard wired to?

Ok. What's its new LAN IP address, and how did you specify it?
> The ip of the router is 192.168.1.72 [...]
Do you mean the D6220-as-WAP, or some actual router?

"try and connect" _how_? "fails" _how_? As usual, showing actual
actions with their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...)
can be more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

Re: Using D6220 as access point but cant log in and config
Hello @Coullio1971,
Could you explain how you changed the D6220 to AP mode only? I checked the GUI page myself and only see 2 options: Router (modem + router) and Modem (modem only).

_Which_ "the GUI page" did _you_ check? I'm assuming that we're
discussing ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Wireless AP. Look for "access
point" in the D6220 User Manual.

If you took no steps to fix its LAN IP address, then it could get a
different one from time to time (especially after restarting anything).
When you select "Enable AP Mode":
If you select "Get dynamically from existing router", then only your
main router will know which IP address it gave to the D6220-as-WAP, so
you'd need to connect to that main router, and get an "Attached Devices"
(or some kind of DHCP Clients) report, and find the new LAN IP address
of the R7000-as-WAP there. You might save some future effort by
reserving a dynamic address on the main router (DHCP server) for the
D6220-as-WAP. That way, it would always get the same address, and you'd
know what it is.
If you select "Enable fixed IP settings on this device (not
recommended)", then you'd know the new LAN IP address of the
D6220-as-WAP, but you'd need to ensure that that address is not in the
DHCP pool on the (DHCP server on) the main router.
But I know little about your main router, or how it's configured.
> [...] I powered off all the lights and only show power on the d6220
Probably unwise when exploring new territory, where the LED
indicators might indicate interesting things. (But probably not crucial
here.)

Check the section Use the Modem Router as a WiFi Access Point Only in the manual.
Find it at the end of this link:

Perhaps that is what @Coullio1971 did.

For future reference, and for the benefit of others, that's what you have to do when you turn a DSL modem into an access point.
Don't do that and the D6220 has no link to the internet.
The manual explains that in the section Use the Modem Router as a WiFi Access Point Only (see my previous message). Note the first bullet point "Use an Ethernet cable to connect the red Internet port on the rear panel of the modem router to a LAN port on the other router."
