VDSL Modem - DM200 - Blocking Traffic

Hi.

New DM200 purchased to replace ISP provided Router (which has been in MODEM / BRIDGE mode for years and working OK).

1. Updated to latest firmware.

2. Configured ISP Settings in Router mode.

3. Changed to MODEM Mode.

No configuration changes made to FIREWALL/ROUTER (ZyXEL USG 20W).

Now some services, such as Playstation 4 Login, are non-functional.

Any ideas?  Thanks.

Did you reset the ZyXEL USG 20W before you introduced it to the DM200?

You probably need to get it to forget past relationships.

Also be sure to restart your network in this sequence:

  • Turn off and unplug the modem.
  • Turn off the modem router and computers.
  • Plug in the modem and turn it on. Wait 2 minutes.
  • Turn on the modem router and wait 2 minutes.
  • Turn on the computers.

Thanks Michael.

Yes. The USG 20W was rebooted to clear cache and DHCP tables.

All pcs and devices have similarly been restarted to refresh ips.

I'm wondering if it may be something to do with having BOTH a STATIC IP and a DHCP WAN IP, with traffic shaping / balancing / failover ?

Who knows? Not me. That ZyXel box seems to be more complicated than your average router. I doubt if you'll fund much expertise on that in these parts.

Re: VDSL Modem - DM200 - Blocking Traffic

Hi Michael, and thanks for engaging.

I would have thought that mine is a fairly common general network design for small and medium business.

Modem in front of a business firewall (whether it's Cisco, Netgear, Sonicwall, ZyWALL, or whatever).

I guess I was hoping that NETGEAR SUPPORT would be monitoring these community discussions and jump in with some advice.

Maybe, but the DM200 is a consumer grade product that maybe isn't the best choice for a business.

This isn't the best place for that sort of thing. This community is essentially a user-to-user venue with some input from a small band of Netgear techies.

Most of the answers come from fellow users who have no connection with Netgear. They just have a lot of collective experience and are familiar with the sort of problems that turn up here.

If you want "official" support then you should go through the right channels.
