Went on holiday, now router will not let me login

So, essentially, I've just returned from holiday and as always, I turn all of my devices off over my holiday period.

I turned everything back on and none of my smart home devices re-connected to my network, which is a bit strange. I tried reconnecting them through the app, which is usually a breeze, however they will not connect to the network.

I reset the router and tried to login with the default "admin" and "password", but that will simply not work.

Whenever I try to go to "routerlogin.net" it simply states "I am not connected to my router's wifi", even though I most certainly am; default network is "NETGEAR14" and that is what I am connected to.

If I try to login via the IP location of 192.168.1.1 with the default details it says "account name or password incorrect".

I have tried factory resetting the device 3 times, power-cycling a few times and unplugging and replugging everything, including my smart home stuff.

Weirdly, my phone and PC will connect to the network, but neither of them will let me login to the router and the "Netgear Genie" app just sits on an infinite loading circle before giving me "account not found" error.

Any help guys?

Re: Went on holiday, now router will not let me login

Ok, I found the issue.

Did a complete factory reset and left the cables out (except power).

Logged into my router and everything was fine. Put my cables back in again and now I realised the issue.

My router is indeed only acting as a bridge, so when I plugged my cable in and go to 192.168.1.1 I am actually seeing the login page for the main household's router, not my netgear one.

I didn't realise this until now. Silly me but problem solved.

Is that accurate?  Connected to what?  (I suppose that the firmware
version is currently a mystery.)

How, exactly?  Did the LED indicators do anything interesting when
you did that?  Try it again, with no data cables connected to the
modem+router?

What kind of "not work"?  As usual, showing actual actions with their
actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful
than vague descriptions or interpretations.

Welcome to what may be the worst error message in the world.  For an
explanation, try:

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1365830

Briefly, the idea is that "[www.]routerlogin.net" (or ".com") should
point to your own router, but that's true only if you use your own
router for DNS name resolution.  Regardless, you should be able to get
to the thing using its IP address, if you can determine (or guess) that.
Normally, that would be something like "192.168.0.1", but it could be
different. ("10.0.0.1" is a typical alternate, for example.)

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Factory Settings".
As I read it, the default LAN IP address for a D6400 should be
"192.168.0.1", not "192.168.1.1", suggesting that at least one of us is
confused.  If you're talking to some other gizmo (which you haven't
reset), then "admin"+"password" might reasonably fail.

> [...] Weirdly, my phone and PC will connect to the network, [...]

Which "the network"?  What are their IP addresses when they do?
Gateway IP address?  (That should be the router.)

Re: Went on holiday, now router will not let me login

[[   Is that accurate?  Connected to what?  (I suppose that the firmware

-> Yes, completely accurate.  As I live in shared accomodation I have my device linked up to a different router/modem via an ethernet cable. Which I believe is called bridging ? Could be wrong there.

Firmware is Jade 16.2.

[[    How, exactly?  Did the LED indicators do anything interesting when
you did that?  Try it again, with no data cables connected to the
modem+router? ]]

-> Pushed a bent paperclip into the reset hole/switch at the back. First time I did this was for the 7 seconds in the user manual, then the second time I did it for 30 seconds and then finally I unplugged everything and did it again for 30 seconds.

Light flashed green a few times, then went to solid orange and all SSIDs and passwords got reset, except the main router login one (apparently).

[[

What kind of "not work"?  As usual, showing actual actions with their
actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful
than vague descriptions or interpretations. ]]

-> As I stated below, when trying to login to the router (via 192.168.1.1), it says that the "username or password is incorrect".

[[ Other quotes ]]

I still own the original user documentation for the device and inside both the user manual and on the sticker on the device itself, it states that the default login information is " admin " " password " .

This simply does not work and I have tried in all-caps, no caps, only first letter capitalized and everything.

It just gives an "incorrect username or password" error.

On the router page, when I visit 192.168.1.1, it says that the gateway is that same IP address.

Now, for some reason my Google devices have now connected to the network, but I still cannot login to the router to change any settings.

Now, I have no idea how, but when I first purchased the router (second hand) I could login to it after a factory reset, but now... it wont let me. Either "admin" // "password" is actuall incorrect and I'm being an idiot by forgetting what the actual login information is, or something has changed on the device somewhere.
