What settings should i use for gaming and limit others that is using wifi connection

first of all hi to everyone on the forum this is my first time here and i think i came to right place for the problem i have lets begin

theres 3 people in my house using our network including me my problem is basicly having lag issues and im open to all suggestions

what i have done till now is :

i have enabled parental controls and blocked file sharing pornography and staff so my brother cant access them but i think somehow he still does it and slows my connection

as a priority user i want to do some settings that will allow me to play my games without lag issues or anything like that

so where should i start ? qos trafic meter ? or something else ?

There's pretty much nothing you can do if the internet connection is loaded to the max.

You could try enabling QOS but all that can do is prioritise trafic going out in the hope that replies to these packets come back quicker.

A video stream is particularly hard to deal with becuase, well, its streaming to the player but the QOS priotitization at least will ensure the receive acknowledgments for the video packets are sent after packets originating from the game device.

If you used the Dynamic QOS available in most current Netgear routers you would set everything at a priority lower than the devices used for gaming so that they get priority over other devices. You could further pick specific devices that should have a lower priority as well, not that it would make much difference to the gaming devices which would always "go first" so to speak.

As far as lag goes, that's also likley to remain to some extent.

My son complains about lag all the time, even when there's little or no other internet trafic.

But I have to say my R8500 has been better than other high end routers I have in this respect so you should have reasonable performance.

But you don't say what analysis you've done to establish if it is going to be possible to do something about this.

You need to work that out first.

You need to work out how much demand each of the competing clients is putting on your internet connection and how many typically use the internet connection concurrently and compare that to the available bandwidth of the internet connection.

If the demand is greater than the available bandwidth there usually isn't much you can do.

Once the internet connection is maxed out everything will suffer.

If there is enough bandwidth then the lag problem might not be your internet connection at all and that is often the case for my son when gaming.

I don't know what the bandwidth control option you mention does, don't know what router you have either so I can't look it up.

If you can allocate a maximum allowed bandwidth to specific clients that might help.

But unless you have enough bandwidth to cater for the number of clients that need to watch videos concurrently it can't work.

Available bandwidth is usually not the problem with games, it's the response delay that makes a difference which is often measured by using a ICMP ping.

If ping times are long (long being established by repeated observation over time) then you can try and correlate activities on your local network with the increased ping times. But note that increased ping times might not be due to local activities.

Not only that, if you're not very familiar with the demands put on the internet connection by local clients and what ping times you need and what you get over time than you can't work out what's causing problems.
