Wi-Fi loses signal

Hello everybody,

when I am connected to Netgear XX - 5G network I have everyday disconnections.

My Netgear Modem / Router still has all the LEDS on and my statistics say that it works properly.

But my iMac's Wi-Fi doesn't work for 2-3 minutes.

When I get Wi-Fi from another network from the neighborhood I don't have any issue at all.

My ISP has just fixed my phone line, I have 100Mbps speed.

I'm very confused, I can't understand.

My Netgear device seems to be OK ( I tried reset ).

Also when I lose my connection on my computer, in the meanwhile my other iOS devices, have Internet properly from the same Netgear network.

I start to believe it is nothing with my Modem / Router but when I am connected to another network everything works fine.

Any advices please ?

You say the iMac works perfectly when connected to "another network". Is that a 5G network too? If all your iOS devices work fine (on the 5G network presumably) then that points at the iMac as the issue. Can you run the iMac on 2.4GHz network?

Thank you, yes that is 5G network also.

All of my iOS devices work on 5G, yes.

I will run it on 2.4 GHz.

( I am the only one in the neighborhood on this channel, there is one other network in other 5G channel )

OK well I'm sorry but I can't imagine how the iMac would work on other 5G networks but not your Netgear one--that other iOS devices work on it suggests an iMac problem of course. Maybe the Apple Community might have some clues/advice for you.

Hi again,

I see now Internet and DSL leds turn off sometimes.

So I'm facing disconnections.

Any solution for that ?

My ISP just fixed my Internet line.

Is it a good idea If I try short preamble ?

One other thing is my 2.4 GHz Netgear network, which I don't use it, is among too many networks, so I suspect interferences.

If I close it ?

I noticed now it loses the signal on all of my devices, MAC and iOS devices even with no turn off the DSL and Internet LEDS. 

This happening for one minute, after that I have Internet properly but it's enough to interrupt my Skype meeting.

I have closed my 2.4GHz network, I've changed 5G channel, I've reset my Modem / Router, my ISP has fixed my line.

Any other idea please ?

I have no advice, but some obvious, basic questions:

   "D7000[v1]" or "D7000v2"?  Look for "Model" on the product label.
Firmware version?  Connected to what?

   _Which_ channels?  They overlap.

   Have you looked at the logs?  Look for "Logs" in the User Manual.
(Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.)

- I have the v1, the latest firmware, 1.0.1.78

- Connected to 5G Wi-Fi ( iMac and iOS devices ).

- Now I am on 36 channel and the other 5G ( neighbor ) it is on 44 channel.

There is no other 5G device here.

- I don't know what to understand from logs, however.

If it is safe, I can upload my logs here.

EDIT : I see that there is no Time Zone settings under Schedule tab in Security Settings in Advanced.

   I never look at mine, so I know nothing.  I'd look for anything
logged at/near the time of the failure.

   Try: ADVANCED > Administration > NTP Setting.  It might have been
moved.

Yes, it have been moved under NTP Setting.

In logs I see lots of [DoS Attack: ACK Scan]

In the time of failure I'm seeing :

[DHCP IP: (192.168.X.X)] to MAC address A8:23:etc:etc Thursday, July 02,2020 19:25:24

I tried manual DHCP, can't think anything else.

   "seeing"?  Once?  Hundreds/second?

 

   There's no need to hide any of a local address like "192.168.X.X".
(And I doubt that that MAC address matters to anyone else, either.)  Is
that some known device on your LAN?

   What does Netgear call "manual DHCP"?  Do you mean Address
Reservation?

I saw two of DHCP IP blah blah.

On my LAN I have my TV and my set-top-box.

On my WLAN, 3 devices, my iMac and iPhone-iPad, sometimes the Air-Conditions 🙂

Forgotten, manual DHCP I meant on my iMac, not on Netgear's Router.

So my iMac now has a permnently manual stable DCHP.

   Huh?  Does any of that stuff make sense to you when you read it?

 

   To most people, "DHCP" means "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol":

   What, exactly, does "manual DHCP" mean to you?  What, exactly, did
you do on your "my iMac"?  Did you configure one of its network
interfaces (which?) with static IP parameters, or what?

   Let's pretend that you're trying to say that some network interface
on your "my iMac" now has a static IP address (et c.).  So what?  Does
that make any difference to anything?

 

   General advice: Inventing your own technical terms is not conducive
to effective communication.

Keep on mind that many people don't know much about all these,

they just have Routers to do their jobs, so mistakes are allowed here. 

It is obvious I'm doing my best to explain.

Anyway, I meant "use DHCP with manual address" choice ( 192.168.0.200 ).

I did that in case there is something wrong with "use DHCP" choice, ( automatically ).

Because in time of failure I saw DHCP in logs.

*These choices are on my Operating System under Network Preferences.

When I connect my computer to my ISP's router I have lots of dropouts everyday.

With Netgear's router (D7000 v1), my connection failures are everyday also but the leds are always on.

With cable it works properly.

Can I do anything to reduce a little my speed around 10 Mbps ?

Because my issue starts when I change my Internet speed from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps.

One solution is to adjust my SNR Margin but my ISP wants to avoid that.

It looks like my router it hardly accepts the traffic.

I tried reset the router.

Just a thought.

1) I have found what's going on, however I'm not sure why is this happening and I can't find a solution.

It looks like there is too much traffic.

I've found a temporary solution though.

When I have all of my devices to 5GHz band then I have dropouts.

If I have my mobile devices (iPhone and iPad) to 2.4GHz and my iMac to 5GHz, everything works normally.

So, it is OK for now.

 

2) Another issue is that I can't upgrade to the latest GUI firmware. I did the procedure 5 times but it is still writes the previous version on Advanced information. Also when I'm trying to upgrade the new firmware is always available. And I'm looking for this firmware to do it manually.

What I'm looking for is the GUI Text File (V1.0.1.50) and not the V1.0.1.78_1.0.1, which I have already install it.
