X4S R7800 won't update firmware

I have just installed an X4S R7800 router and updated the firmware to 1.0.1.60 using the netgear genie firmware update option via the routerlogin.net page.  Netgear's support page for the router is showing a newer firmware (1.0.2.80) but the update option does not pick this up so Ive downloaded it from the support page to my laptop, unzipped the .img file but it will not update.  Ive tried this via wifi & with an ethernet connection but same result?  Has anyone else had this problem?  Shoud I care?  Is the 1.0.1.60 stable and safe enough?

Plus the Nighthawk app will not recognise the router.  It picks up my extender (ex6250) but not the router? Not a big issue but this may be related?

Are you sure you have the R7800? I don't show that firmware version on the support site at all. 

Maybe you have the D7800?
