using cordless phone with nbn

I have a D7800 modem and have just connected to the nbn.  Can I still use my Panasonic KX-TG5932AL cordless phone for landline calls?  Does this work if I connect it to the VDSL port on the back of the modem?

Hi thommo66,

Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

The VDSL port of the D7800 is intended for Internet and not for phone service. Connecting the phone to the VDSL port will not work.

Why do you want to connect a cordless phone to the modem/router?

The phone usually runs off the phone line bit of the connection to the outside world.

NBN comes in different flavours. If the D7800 works and connects you to the internet, it sounds like you have the VDSL type on NBN. The normal thing to do is to use a DSL splitter with one outlet for the modem and the other for the phone. Something like this.

DSL splitterDSL splitter

The VDSL port on the router connects to the modem output on the splitter.

Just another user.
