Product Shipped with Old Firmware without Webserver
Hi, I can't access the websever of my brand new GS105Ev2. Based on this discussion and this discussion it appears to have been shipped with a version of the firmware (v5.4.0.3) that doesn't...
Some smarta** are still offering these OEM as "NEW ProSAFE GS105Ev2 5-Port Gigabit Web Managed (Plus) Switch" e.g. on ebäh for 65 USD - luckily they show the original manufacturing label clearly identifying it as a GS105E-2A1NAS. At least, they accept returns - fair enough.
Reminder: A correct retail GS105Ev2 intended for the North American market would be GS105E-200NAS, -not- a GS105E-2A1NAS ...
Current street prices over here in Europe are in the 31.25 ... 49.00 USD range, including Swiss VAT btw. - but yes, these switches are difficult to buy these days.
The good thing is that these OEM serial numbers can't be registered with my.netgear.com

FWIW my unit which was shipped without a working webserver was able to be registered with NetGear.
Also FWIW my unit doesn't indicate -200NAS, or -2A1NAS it just says GS105Ev2.

Well, as I mentioned several times on this and similar threads, these devices were never intended to be sold individually nor as being labelled for a third party - and not to be re-purposed or re-sold as a GS105Ev2. The switch configuration would have been deployed by other methods.
The SKU does indicate the order information for Netgear retail units Ordering Information
GS105E-200NAS North America and Latin America
GS105E-200PES Europe
GS105E-200AUS Australia
GS105E-200UKS United Kingdom
GS105E-200JPS JapanThe -200xxx does indicate it is a v2 hardware, the xxx does indicate the market or customer.
GS105E-2A1NAS OEM customer, US market
And no, this does not have to be printed on the device labels.
Based on the firmware version, v5.4.0.3 (and intentionally without a Web UI), Netgear knows exactly this was never ordered or shipped as a GS105E-200NAS, much more likely a GS105E-2A1NAS, well visible on the ebay offerings for example.
None of these is coming in the color retail package.
Lucky for you, the market and customer details for these GS105Ev2 are not part of the manufacturing data stored on the devices, and don't prohibit flashing and activating the official firmware builds. Could happen that the affected serial numbers will be excluded from any future warranty and support claims any day.
In case you are not happy with the device you bought from a third party, complain there or return it for a refund.
Nothing to argue with me, I'm neither Netgear nor involved in any other way.
