Battery Back-Up N600

Hi, I am 'new' to this community/forum.

Due to power outages I am looking for a Back-Up Battery to power my Netgear N600 Router.  { cable box already has is own back-up battery]. Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks,

Model: WNDR3400v3|N600 Wireless Dual Band Router

Re: Battery Back-Up N600

  Hi Thanks to everyone.

  Figured that I would have to get one that is 480W to have a reasonable back-up time;

found out that the N600 WNDR3400v3 draws 14.5w.

Was looking and decided to go with this: UPS_ Back-Up Battery_ Device.JPG

Re: Battery Back-Up N600

I'd buy a cheap UPS. Battery backup system.

that way you can plug multiple systems into it like the modem and router.

They can be found all over amazon or other 3rd parties.

How long do you need to stay on line in the absence of power?

Approx. 30 minutes to 1 hour ( had one instance of over 24 hrs).  Thanks

From what I have seen, an hour might be possible with something less pocket shocking, but 24 hours looks more like generator country.

You started  by wanting to maintain an WNDR3400v3. That won't need much juice, but what about the PCs and other stuff. They are the biggest consumers of watt-hours?

Re: Battery Back-Up N600

Hi thanks for your reply;  yeah much my thoughts. The cable modem has an 8 hour backup battery, but I need something to keep my wifi going maybe just as long - without breaking my wallet.   Thanks

Re: Battery Back-Up N600

I think the WNDR3400 used a 18 watt power supply (12v x 1.5amp=18w).

to hit 8 hours, you'd need at 160 watt backup power supply. they're fairly cheap.

If you think you'll be upgrading routers at some point, the highest drawing router I have can use up to 60 watts.

Over 8 hours you'd need a 480 watt backup power supply.

Both aren't that expensive (bit more for the 480 watt).

so if its just routers you're running, not to bad. If you're looking at adding computers, then you enter another realm of needing power (as @michaelkenward said)

Re: Battery Back-Up N600

Poor math on my part.

18 watt power supply x8 hours is 144 watt. for your device.

I was roughly figuring it at 20watt x 8 hours =160.

for a higher performing its the upto 480watt. (60 watt x 8 hours)

Keep in mind that most  power supplies are over rated.

a lot of the power supply have where you can plug in what you need (in terms of power) and will tell you how long it'll run.

Re: Battery Back-Up N600

should work well! (can't see your specific one but 480w should give you plenty of time)

No, it's not.  watts * hours = watt-hours, not watts.

See above. For anyone who cares.
