Can't rename 5G network

Can't rename 5G network

Today my antivirus prompted me to upgrade this router's firmware, and with that came a factory reset of the router. I'm in the process of renaming the networks and resetting the passwords and can't rename the 5G network (the default NETGEAR75 ssid). All the documentation I can find shows how to do this using the old Netgear Genie UI which has a "basic" tab and a "wireless" option. The new UI does not have that. Under "wireless settings" it only offers the option of changing the 2.4 Ghz network and the Guest access (which I did). The 5G network does not show up, but it works. My phone can find and use the default NETGEAR75 login but obviously I want to change the password from the default.

What am I missing?

nvm, apparently this can't be done in the "genie". I got it to work via http://www.routerlogin.net/

And which version are you running now?  And does it stop your
(unspecified) "my antivirus" from complaining about it?

What does "with that came a factory reset" mean to you?  After a
firmware update, the router will restart, but it may not do a settings
reset.  You might want to try that.

With my weak psychic powers, I have no idea what you could or
couldn't find.

Scroll down?  It might be helpful to attach a picture of that page.
If the firmware update left the router's settings scrambled, then a
settings reset might help.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Factory Settings".

Re: Can't rename 5G network

Firmware V1.0.1.58

"Factory reset" = whatever happens when you use a pin to push the reset button (hole) in the back of the router. Instructions from Netgear called this a factory reset.

"Documentation I can find" = documentation that comes up with a search on the Netgear site for "change name of 5g network r6200", which defaults to Netgear instructions designed for the old UI and many other unrelated/unhelpful documents. Suggestions for better search terms appreciated.

There is no option to scroll up or down within router settings/wireless settings.

I do not know how to assess whether the update left the settings scrambled. All of the former wireless names were gone, and I was able to re-enter two of them (guest and 2.4GHz).

I do not think that there is anything wrong with the router. I suspect that a switch is set incorrectly somewhere that would enable me to access/modify the 5G wireless name (SSID).

Thanks.

Ah.  Normally, when someone says "Genie", I include boilerplate like
the following:

Which "the Genie"?  Ever helpful, Netgear uses the name "Genie"
for more than one thing.  Netgear routers have a web-browser
interface called "Genie", and Netgear offers application programs
for various computers/pads/phones, which are also called "Genie".

Your "Genie UI" left me believing that you were using the web-browser
interface, not one of the Genie apps.

I don't use the Genie apps, so I know nothing, but I would not be
amazed if such an app refused to reconfigute the network interface which
it was using to control the router.

Primary lesson: "Genie" is not a complete description of anything.
(And, as always, "Never assume."

As you have found the various genies are blunt instruments. The browser interface is usually more capable.

I chip in to point out that sometimes the desktop (Windows at least) genie does things that are broken in the browser interface. For example, the Windows genie can name devices in the R7800's network map, whereas the browser interface lost that feature in the a recent firmware update.

Don't go anywhere near the NIghthawk apps.
