D6220 Cannot connect after fibre upgrade (NZ)

Model D6220/AC1200

Recently changed from VDSL to Fibre supplied by Chorus, their ONT indicates power is on, optical signal being received and the Lan1 is orange connects to Netgear modem/router. On the Netgear unit the power light and WiFi leds are green, there is no DSL indication The internet signal light remains a solid orange. Now wondering if the model I have is suited for Fibre connection?

Not much meat on that bone.  _Where_ "in Netgear's Genie"?

You may need only a router, but a D6220 should be able to act as only
a router.  If your problem is not configuring your D6220 properly as a
router, then you might have similar problems configuring any other
router as a router, too.

Does your ISP provide any instructions on how to attach/configure a
router to work with their ONT interface?  Do you have any reason to
believe that "ISP logon details" are needed with this (non-DSL?)
connection?  Have you done a settings reset on the D6220, and let it try
to puzzle out its new environment?

Not a very detailed description of anything.  Does it have a maker
and model number?  Or any documentation?

Huh?  Which hole on which device is connected to which other hole on
which other device?  Hint: If a device has multiple Ethernet ports, then
"connected to device" is not enough detail.  Are there LED indicators on
these devices?  What do they indicate?

Are you connecting anything to the DSL port on the D6220?  (What?
Why?)  If you're not using DSL, then I wouldn't expect the D6220 to
indicate a DSL connection.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Set Up the Modem
Router for Cable Service"?  Further reading might also be helpful.

I don't see why it wouldn't be, but, like the other non-psychics in
your audience, I know little to nothing about _your_ "Fibre connection".

Fibre is rarely DSL. It is an optical thing to your premises with its own box, the Optical Network Terminal. If this ONT has a LAN socket on the back, then you may be able to use the D6220 in router mode, bypassing the now redundant modem bit.

Plug the ONT's output into the red Internet port on the back of the D6220. The DSL LED probably will not show anything, but the Internet LED will tell you if you have an internet connection.

It is probably a good idea to reset the D6220 before you do this so that it forgets is misspent youth connected to the DSL service. Then set it up according to the instructions.

There is support for the D6220, including a manual, somewhere at the end of this link:

>>>> D6220 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<<

See the section Set Up the Modem Router for Cable Service.

Re: D6220 Cannot connect after fibre upgrade (NZ)

Thanks Michael for your response, the ONT is connected to the Netgear modem/router as you describe, I have installed the latest firmware available, reset the Netgear 6220 (several times). Have used Netgear's "Genie" that indicates the Wifi is working but alas no internet available. Contacted ISP provider and they can't see any issues from their end. The ONT box indicates signal is being received. Have sourced assistance from the retailer I purchased the router as I suspect it is this unit, fortunately it is still under warranty and they are happy to send a technician out to get it sorted.

That's good news. Let's hope they can fix it.

Remember, you may need the login details for your ISP, so that you can feed them into the router. Only your ISP can tell you how to go about this.

If the D6220 is a recent purchase, any chance that you can take it back? It is a modem/router. A router only box might be a better option. A DSL modem is not much use with a fibre link.

Yip have ISP logon details, they are displayed in Netgear's Genie. Will look at the possibility of replacing the existing unit with a router only, as suggested. Thanx again Hbbs
