DG834G and Synology NAS Time Machine not working

Hi,

I have a Wireless Router DG834G, a 8 port switch, a new Synology DS211 with a Time Machine setup and a Macbook Pro.

If I connect the MacBPro to the switch via a wired link, I can instantly see the Time Machine and use it.

When I connect via the wireless only, I cannot see the Time Machine (even through I can browse files on the NAS).

How can I resolve this?

I have OSX Snow Leopard installed.

Thanks in advance

Re: DG834G and Synology NAS Time Machine not working

DGxx series should have wireless isolation feature in the router interface,

This will prevent from talking to wired devices in both direction

Re: DG834G and Synology NAS Time Machine not working

I have checked the Wireless Isolation option and this is "Disabled" (unchecked).

So no help there. Smiley Sad

Any other ideas?

Re: DG834G and Synology NAS Time Machine not working

I did try enabling Wireless Isolation and then disabling it again in case the setting needed to be changed before becoming active, but this no no affect.

In this case Wireless Isolation should not affect the communication as the NAS is on a Wired Connection and the Macbook on a Wireless (on the same sub-net).

By changing the Macbook to wired I can get connectivity, but this is not practical. so the problem is definitely the router.

Can you make it work with both on wired to the router?

Yes.

The moment I plug in on Wired, then the Time Machine detects the disk and can up.Smiley Happy

On Wireless there is no detection. Something is not being routed from the wired interface to the wireless interface.

Re: DG834G and Synology NAS Time Machine not working

Netgear support are not interested. Apart from a few non-replies like "can you ping" and "try another computer" they have added nothing and not help in the least.
They seem to have given up now and said Apple should fix the problem, even though the only device at fault is the netgear router.

Don't rely on netgear support for anything!

Re: DG834G and Synology NAS Time Machine not working

After a few days of silence, and a complete factory reset of the router I have convinced support to elevate my case to the next level.

We'll see if the second tier support is any better!
