Firewall or port forwarding?

Firewall or port forwarding?

I have a DGN3500 (firmware V1.1.00.30_1.00.30NA). There are two things that seem to do the same thing: "Firewall Rules" and "Port Forwarding". What is the difference between these? Either will take a public port request and send it to a particular computer on the LAN, right?

Thanks,
Justin

There must be some difference or Netgear wouldn't have created different commands for them, right? Is there something that can be done thru one and not the other?

Re: Firewall or port forwarding?

I finally figured out the difference. 'firewall rules' are reported in the e-mail, 'port forwards' are not reported.

I wonder why Netgear thought it wise to exclude the forwards?? Doesn't make sense to me.
