Before upgrading the firmware you should record any settings that you might need to re-enter later, I suggest that you use screen grabs to avoid any errors. Your ISP login details should be known, the router may not display your ISP password in a readable form, so make sure you know this before you start.

Following the upgrade pervious settings may well be retained, and for many people no issues arise. However it is possible for problems to occur after an upgrade, and in that case the recommendation is to factory reset the router back to defaults and re-enter settings manually, you would need to know your ISP login details and have a record of all other settings you may have changed from the defaults.
