Force firmware update / beta firmware issue

Does anyone know how to force a firmware update on the DGND3700?

I have an original beta unit with the following beta firmware loaded:

Hardware Version DGND3700
Firmware Version V1.0.0.10_1.0.10_DSL_Detcion_Debug
GUI Language Version V1.0.0.8

When I try to update it to the latest official release firmware I constantly get a failed update error.

I have tried the built-in firmware check, both using wireless and wired.
As well as downloading the latest firmware and trying to upload it via the router interface, and it still fails.

I have used Internet Explorer 8 and 9, and Firefox, but it always fails.

If I remember rightly I loaded/flashed the beta firmware using Telnet/BusyBox following a guide from someone at Netgear.

Does anyone know how I can do this, and rectify the issue?

Re: Force firmware update / beta firmware issue

Yes, it does.

I think it has to be enabled first.

I can Telnet in but I have no idea what the command would be to flash a firmware update, if indeed you can?

The tftp put command doesn't work either.

I had a PowerPoint slideshow with the instructions but I have lost it!

Hi Dazeon,

Check that you have downloaded the whole v12 file from the Netgear site.

I found that I had to use another router in order to download the file successfully. I tried several different computers.

Once you've downloaded it, it should be a simple matter to perform the upgrade via the router's User Interface and navigating to the 'Upgrade' section.

As for Telnet, see this thread: http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=68799

Still no joy with this.

I've tried downloading the file via three different computers now (at two completely separate locations) and from my tablet and smartphone using mobile internet.

Also tried using every browser at my disposal and that doesn't work either.

I tried to change the file extension as someone had recommended but that failed.

Built-in GUI method fails constantly too.

Guess I am going to have to speak to Netgear again!

Hey from Sky User Scubbie, and thanks for your suggestions! Smiley Happy

Re: Force firmware update / beta firmware issue

Hello Dazeon,

I found that I needed to go back to my Sky router in order to download the whole file from the Netgear website.

Once completed, I could do what ever I wanted.

Even with the beta firmware I can't download the firmware from their website.

I trust this helps.

I believe Netgear don't post Beta firmware on their site for download. You can only get Beta from their support team.

Re: Force firmware update / beta firmware issue

I think what they were discussing had to do with reverting to an officially released firmware after having flashed the router with beta firmware. Smiley Wink

No, unfortunately I didn't mythspell.

I'm hoping I can update to the next official firmware release.

Thanks for the reply. If either of us (or anyone else) finds a solution let's post it here because I have my doubts the next firmware (if there is one) will do differently.

Re: Force firmware update / beta firmware issue

No problem at all.

I'll be sure to post a solution if I find one in the meantime.

I would tend to agree with you re. the next firmware (which is starting to look like vapourware), I'm not convinced it will either but I live in hope.

I'm starting to lose patience with the constant disconnects that seem to plague my Android devices (Motorola Atrix, Asus Transformer, and HTC Desire).

I have been staying at my sister's house for two weeks and with her new BT Home Hub I didn't see one drop-out whatsoever.

Anyway, that's off-topic so I'll leave it there.
