Good speed at modem, 50% loss out of wired and wifi - R6120

Just got a new account with 100mbit down.

Connected directly to the modem I can get 90-120mbit

Once I put the router in place, it drops to 50-60, wired and wifi.

I've done a hard reset on the router twice, that made no difference.

At wits end here and hope someone can shed some light on this.

Newest firmware = yes.

Not an optimal choice for speeds near 100Mb/s (and up).

As always, an actual version number would be more useful than your
opinion of what's "Newest" today.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for the
Ethernet port speeds in the technical specs.

Note that the (carefully edited?) R6120 User Manual makes things look
even worse than they are:

LAN    Four RJ-45 ports supporting 10BASE-T
WAN    One RJ-45 port supporting 10BASE-T

The Product Data Sheet is less lame:

      o Five (5) 10/100Mbps (1 WAN and 4 LAN) Fast Ethernet ports
        with auto-sensing technology

With a 100Mb/s maximum speed on the WAN/Internet port, you'll never
get more than that, and getting even that much through a low-end router
isn't a sure bet.

Next time, look for "1000" or "gigabit"?

Re: Good speed at modem, 50% loss out of wired and wifi - R6120

By newest, I meant exactly that, the newest firmware available: V1.0.0.66

According to the documentation: AC1200 WiFi—300+900Mbps speeds. 10/100Mbps (1 WAN and 4 LAN)

Are you saying that even though it says 100Mbs LAN that it's a lie?

And next week/month/year, when some other poor soul stumbles into
this mess, what will your "newest" mean to her?

"Lie" is such an ugly word.

The speed of a port is not a guarantee that all the associated
hardware/firmware can keep that port saturated.  It's an upper bound,
not a lower bound, as we say in the trade.

Did you follow the link to that other thread?  A suitable Web or
forum search should find a few other disappointed folks.
