Is _what_ "legit"? With my weak psychic powers, I can't see your
e-mail message. Netgear did recently send such a message. Whether you
got a legitimate message from Netgear, or something else, remains a
mystery.

Many people can send you a flashy-looking e-mail message. Your
e-mail client should be able to show you the e-mail message header,
which would tell you the actual source of the message.
In a different forum, you might find this:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1445385
You might wonder why such a message is not posted in every relevant
forum. It's a sign of Netgear's organizational abilities.
Whether new firmware is available for your router model is another
question. Netgear tends to broadcast such messages, rather than trying
to determine relevant target recipients. So, don't be amazed either
way.

There is a manual for the device and the latest firmware somewhere at the end of this link:
>>>> R6250 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<<
You can check the firmware version of your device and see if there is something newer on the website. If there is the Release Notes should explain how to install it.
Just another user.
