Install problems

I just bought the R6300. I plugged it into my modem and turned it on according to the manual. The SSID immediately showed up on my laptop and all handheld devices but when I type in the password that was given on the bottom of the router, it keeps reporting that it was "unable to connect". I also tried wiring it directly to the router and it still won't connect. I called tech support and she was trying to be helpful but everything she asked me to do, I had already tried. Including trying to go to www.routerlogin.com, going to the IP in my browser, hard wiring, trying a different computer (I've now tried my laptop, CPU and 2 iPhones), also turning off, then on, the modem and Router, and resetting the router. The tech support woman finally just told me I should take it back to Best Buy and get a new one. I just bought it today and it was sealed in the box, it seemed unlikely to me that it defective. Any thoughts?!
