Mac Screen Sharing Connection

Mac Screen Sharing Connection

This is the string I normally use to make an (over the Internet) Apple Screen Sharing connection from the Finder's Connect to Server… function:

vnc://[WAN IP address of router]:[LAN IP address of targeted computer]

It doesn't seem to work with the R6300, and I was forced to make a port forwarding entry to get it working.

is you setup the port number on mac side and open the ports you just need on vnc to point WAN of the router and correct ports pointing to LAN ip should work

Re: Mac Screen Sharing Connection

In order to use VNC ,
System pref - sharing - remote , specify VNC ports

The use port forwarding with its ports and specify the it's Mac's ip address

I know that it works with port forwarding. My question is why doesn't it work with the string I posted originally. I know that string works with Linksys routers as well as with Apple routers.

Re: Mac Screen Sharing Connection

So instead of the above string, what string should I use to avoid port forwarding?

Since port forwarding port 5900 does work, the R6300 router does recognize the incoming port number without it being included in my string.

Re: Mac Screen Sharing Connection

On VNC client , ex. pc/Mac version

You specify wan io and ports . That should all you need and it's ports forwarded in the router

It doesn't seem to work with the R6300, though. That's the whole point of my original post.

I'm using the Mac Finder's Connect to Server function and not Back to my Mac.

Re: Mac Screen Sharing Connection

Issue are likely to NAT-PMP . - this NAT is only on apple base station

Sharing still I believe are part of back my to mac that register to make it work.
Different version if UPnP can also help but this is where linksys worked.

I don't use screen sharing and sharing different from system >pref >sharing
They're is two sharing for screen sharing and remote management.

From access Ing remotely you may want to use remote management instead

Re: Mac Screen Sharing Connection

OK. I appreciate your responses, but I think the long and short of it is that the R6300 (and probably most or all Netgear routers) don't support what I'm wanting to do.

If I'm trying to troubleshoot someone's Mac computer over the Internet, it's fairly easy for me to get that person's WAN and LAN IP addresses so that I can make a Screen Sharing connection with the right Sharing setting and logins. But it's a lot more difficult to get someone to make the appropriate router port forwarding entry.

Even getting Screen Sharing to work using iChat or iMessages can be difficult, and the remote user must be there to respond to a Screen Sharing request.

Re: Mac Screen Sharing Connection

you need to implement system like screen connect
http://www.screenconnect.com/

or other means to remote desktop for it.
