Netgear D6200 Unable to connect to 2.4GHz

I currently have a Netgear D6200 set up on Centurylink DSL. After setting up a Phillips Wiz light....I get an error message on my devices (using Macbook Pro & iPhone 7) saying Unable to connect to the Netgear 38 which is my 2.4GHz. I am still able to connect to the Netgear38-5G. I am unable to finish setting up the rest of the Wiz bulbs due to this problem. Any help in how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

How did you setup the wiz light? using WPS or what method?

You can still see the 2.4ghz signal broadcasting?

Have you tried changing the ssid and/or password on the router?

Re: Netgear D6200 Unable to connect to 2.4GHz

Thank you for your reply. I set-up the Phillips Wiz light bulb by using the manual setting on the Wiz App on my iPhone. After pairing each bulb...the 2.4 GHz would be disabled. I turned the D6200 off and then back on to reconnect to the 2.4 GHz which was required for the Wiz light. After trying to set up a third bulb...turning the D2600 off and back on still does not inable the 2.4 GHz. It still shows up as an available  Network, but when I try to choose it, I get the error message saying "Unable to join Netgear38. the network is temporarily unavailable. Try again later."  The Netgear38-5G is still avaiable. Any input on how to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated.

What does that mean?

You have turned off the 2.4 GHz? Your wifi clients can't see it?

Have you been into the browser graphical user interface (GUI) for your D6200 to check the wifi settings?

Visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Check the section in the manual Basic Wireless Settings.

You may have done that already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear gave up on supplying paper manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

You have posted your message in the section of this community given over to General WiFi Routers (Non-Nighthawk). (This is easily done, given Netgear's complicated community structure.)

Many questions apply to different types of device, so there may be useful responses here, but you might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Re: Netgear D6200 Unable to connect to 2.4GHz

Thank you for your reply.

I did not turn the 2.4GHz off. The 2.4 GHz. shows up as an available network, but when I try to choose it, I get the error message saying "Unable to join Netgear38. The network is temporarily unavailable. Try again later."    The Netgear38-5G is still avaiable. I have turned off the D2600 and unplugged it several times trying to get it to reboot. After seting up the first Wiz bulb...the 2.4 GHz was showing a "Privacy Warning" after I rebooted but was still available.

i have not  been into the browser graphical user interface (GUI) for the D6200 to check the wifi settings or
checked the Basic Wireless Settings.. I am not sure how to do that...I am not very experienced, but I will try.

Is it possible for me to change the posting to DSL Modems & Routers? Or would I need to repost?

Again I thank you for your help!

That points to a problem with the wifi clients, not the router.

Do all of your wifi devices refuse to connect to Netgear38? Mobile phones and PCs?

What does this bit mean:

Again, a hint that it is nothing to do with the router. That is doing its job, broadcasting an SSID for Netgear38.

What gave you that "Privacy Warning"?

Re: Netgear D6200 Unable to connect to 2.4GHz

Thank you for your reply. My apoligies for the delay in answering. I am still having issues with the 2.4. I contacted my service provider (Centurylink). The techniocian tested the line and did a reset, then asked me to reboot my modem router. After going through the reboot, my 2.4 was back up and available for use. I worked great for a few days, but then started giving the same error message..."Unable to Join Netgear 38. the network is temprarily unavailable."

I am still able to use the Netgear38-5G on this same Netgear D6200.
Last night, I logged unto my Centurylink account and opened a chat for a service technician. After several transfers and explaining the issue several times via chat. ...the technician told me that I would have to contact Netgear to change the necessary settings. Centurylink will not help because the router does not belong to them. I explained that the other technician had fixed it previously with no problem , but was still told that it was a Netgear issue.

I feel that Centurylink is trying to force customers to rent the modem routers from them to get support. Before buying the Netgear, I did rent from Centurylink, but the routers were small and would not give coverage through my whole home. I have Smart TVs, Lighting and security cameras that need the wifi signal through my home.

I have used the Netgear for a few years now and have been very pleased, but it is no longer under warranty. Can anyone please suggest a new replacement model to replace the Netgear D6200. I think it would be less hassle to just replace the router. I can no longer use my Smart TV and some other devices which do not recognizze the 5G.

Thanks in advance for any advice in resolving this issue.

Where, exactly, are you seeing that message, when you do what,
exactly?

Does anything actually say "Netgear 38", or is it really "NETGEAR38"?
What is actually printed on the product label on the D6200?

It's not a CenturyLink problem.  If you can still access the Internet
through the D6200, then its modem and router sections work, as does its
Internet connection (through CenturyLink).  As I read your (rather
sloppy) description, only the 2.4GHz radio section of the D6200 has any
trouble, and CenturyLink has nothing to do with that.  From their end,
they couldn't possibly tell which radio you're using, if any.

As a D7000 user, I wouldn't recommend any Netgear DSL equipment, even
if I thought it might help.  In this case, where no one seems to know
what the actual problem is, I wouldn't bet on any new modem and/or
router solving it.  Dropping a new router into this mess might result in
more problems, not fewer.  It's possible that the D6200 is defective,
but, so far, I see no convincing evidence of that.

Did that ever happen?  As for how, ...

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTFM

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for
"Use NETGEAR genie after Installation" and "Basic Wireless Settings".

What does the the D6200 say about the SSID and passphrase for its
2.4GHz radio?  (BASIC > Wireless...)  Do you and it agree on that
passphrase?

The LED descriptions and "Troubleshoot" might be interesting, too.
Further reading might not hurt, either.

> [...] I set-up the Phillips Wiz light bulb [...]

Did all this trouble start when you added the "Phillips Wiz lights"?

If so, then I'd try a few things related to them.

Your complex mess has problems.  Simplify.

If you disable/remove all of those bulbs, do you still have problems
with other client devices using the 2.4GHz SSID on the D6200?  (And
they're using the right passphrase, as determined above?)

> The 2.4 GHz. shows up as an available network, but when I try to

When that happens, power off the D6200.  Does that "Netgear38" (or,
as I suspect, "NETGEAR38") SSID still appear as an available network in
the list on the client device?

In some cases, an Internet-of-Junk device will have a configuration
mode which includes a little Wi-Fi hotspot all its own.  If you managed
to get one of those devices configured to use an SSID like "Netgear38"
(or "NETGEAR38"), but didn't get it completely configured, then you
might have multiple devices all claiming to be "Netgear38" (or
"NETGEAR38"), which could be quite confusing.  (And, even if you could
get a client device connected to one of those IoJ gizmos, it wouldn't be
able to provide Internet access.)

> [...] After seting up the first Wiz bulb...the 2.4 GHz was showing a

   "seting up" _how, exactly?

What, exactly, does "the 2.4 GHz was showing" mean to you?  "the 2.4
GHz" _what_ "was showing" _what_, where, when you did _what_?

As usual, showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results
(error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

As you might have noticed, you're already there.
