Netgear account not found

I am trying to update the firmware on my router.  When I try to log in to my Netgear account I get an error message saying account not found.  I can't log-in and I can't change the password. I have tried the password recovery with every email account I have.  I get the same error message for all of them.  When I input my router's serial number on the Netgear website it pulls up the information on the router and lets me know when my complimentary support ended for the product, but every option suggested for account/password recovery ends in an error message.  I have no idea what to try next.  Any suggestions anyone has would be welcome.  Thank you.

   What is your "my router"?

What, exactly, does "log in to my Netgear account" mean to you?
What, exactly, are you doing?  You have some computer/device or other,
running some OS or other, and some web browser or other (I assume),
connected in some way (wired or wirelessly?) to your (unspecified) "my
router"?  And you specified some URL or other?  And then you put in some
credentials or other?  Too much mystery.

> [...] I can't log-in [...]

"can't" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for "Types of
Logins".  If all else fails, then look there for "reset".

No need to login to any account to update the firmware.

The most reliable way to do this is to follow the update instructions in the manual.

If you visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

you can feed in the model number and find the documentation, and, if there are any, firmware versions and drivers for your hardware.

Look for the model number on the label on the device.

That page will have a library of firmware. These usually come with release notes that tell you what to do. Sometimes these just point you at the manual.

This is also woreth reading:

How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

Those instructions apply to pretty well every router.

Just another user.
