Re: New Firmware Posted: WNDR3700/WNDR37AV Firmware Version 1.0.14.98

IE9 support is listed as one of the features of this firmware release. Can anyone comment on what they've done with the web interface that is somehow relevant to IE9? Thanks.

yeah thats a great post, if you read a thread that requires you to do a 30-30-30. Thats now considered a "legacy" way of clearing NVRAM. Reccomended way for this device now is the factory reset via software indicated in the thread u posted.

I would follow the directions on that post

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that the WNDR3700 isn't FCC certified to use them. It may be physically capable of it, and it's legal to do so, but devices still have to be certified for those channels by the FCC before they can legally use them in the US.

From my understanding, in order to get certified to use the DFS channels you only have to pay that special "fee" to the FCC or if done under the table, it is alot less.

I remember when the DTV standard was being considered, patent holders for the losing 8VSB made a "donation" both above and below the table and the US went with 8VSB.

Seems that we'll just have to wait until one wireless manufacturer pays...

Would someone be kind enough to post the proper way to upgrade the router's firmware. I have seen some different methods posted in the past. Thank you.

The most reliable method that I've used is simply put router in recovery mode and then reflash, it has given me the cleanest flash in the past when dealing with Atheros-based routers. WebUI based flashing--I've bricked my router many times & sometimes got a partial flash when I verified the size via the booloader console or checkummed it. On some routers, tftp is the ONLY way to flash.

I've been reading some items on IGMP Proxy. I still don't understand its purpose, benefit, and when one would use it. It's in the new firmware 1.0.14.98. Can anyone explain its purpose in layman's terms?

Re: New Firmware Posted: WNDR3700/WNDR37AV Firmware Version 1.0.14.98

from what I understand of the IGMP proxy, the primary user of this would be people that use IP TV from their ISP, think U-Verse from ATT. In this case they would want all the boxes in the house that can watch tv to be able to get the same data because it is routed to just the modem IP address. So when these packets come into the router they need to be broadcasted to all of the addresses inside the network. So all the tv boxes can watch the same channel without having to have more than one stream of the same data and simpler stream setups for the ISP

Re: New Firmware Posted: WNDR3700/WNDR37AV Firmware Version 1.0.14.98

I believe it only applies to certain IP-based VOD services where in the past you needed a gateway/router combo to work in combo w/ the STB, but with it you can basically eliminate the gateway all together. It also allows for remotely controlling finding/accessing the STB, presumably by the provider, so it's a security risk also. It is an older technology that never was widely used and will be phased out entirely in IPv6 networks.

Re: New Firmware Posted: WNDR3700/WNDR37AV Firmware Version 1.0.14.98

Thanks! Those comments made sense.

I was hoping I might be able to apply it to my remote VoIP setup, but not if it's intended for video simultaneous streaming.

Thanks again.

To anyone who uses port translation, it actually allows using non unique internal ports, you just have to skip corresponding checks in js code with firebug or other dev tools.

Did v1.0.14.98 get pulled already? LOL!

It's not listed under firmware for the WNDR3700V1 or the WNDR37AVV1 but I see "Product Quick Links: * Latest firmware v1.0.14.98" on the AV model page but the link results in a page showing "Not available".

Just confirmed that it is indeed removed... They must've found a serious bug or forgot to disable a few hidden features page which requires payment to the FCC or patent holders :D:D:D

glad I waited to flash this one if it was pulled, hopefully it will get fixed soon. multicast is something this router should have and DFS channels is kool.

FYI, if you visit the Google cached version of the 1.0.14.98 announcement page, you can still click through to download the .img file.

Personally, I'm going to assume it was pulled for a reason and hold off on trying it.

Re: New Firmware Posted: WNDR3700/WNDR37AV Firmware Version 1.0.14.98

NETGEAR wants to thank all of you that beta tested this release. (J/K)

FYI, here is what WAS posted for this release. It appears they added some new features. “Schedule-based WiFi on/off” sounds cool but I would think they would resolve the "Known Issues" list before adding more features, especially the USB write performance. I've read that another brand of router, similar in price has double the read/write speed using NTFS on the USB drive, so I know it can be done. I hate having to use EXT3.

New Features & Bug Fixes:

Support “AP mode” and “Auto IP” in AP mode.
Support “Schedule-based WiFi on/off”.
Support “IGMP Proxying”.
IE 9 support.
Support “Port Forwarding Enhancement”.
Support “Automatic Internet Connection reset” in German language.
Support DFS channel in Australia, Canada, and Europe.
Fixed “Attached Devices not showing devices connected”.
Fixed “can't disable automatic search for new FW in German GUI”.
Fixed “Linux files changes to permit bits 777”.

Known Issues:

NTFS write performance (upload to WNDR3700 attached USB storage) is much slower than read no matter using samba or FTP. FTP read is 5 times faster than write. Samba (ie. access network drive via windows) read is 2 times faster than write.
Sometimes clicking “Safely remove USB device” button can't remove USB storage safely.
Workaround: Make sure you are not accessing the attached USB device and the LED on USB device is not blinking (it means no one is accessing it). Then you need to remove the USB device directly and ignore the message about “remove USB device failure) from web GUI.

Cheers,
Jim

Re: New Firmware Posted: WNDR3700/WNDR37AV Firmware Version 1.0.14.98

I don't think they took it down ... it's still there at the correct download link. I am betting it is an issue with the support page on the website, not that they actually took the firmware down for a major issue: http://netgeardownload.registria.com/single_page_registration?product[sku]=WNDR3700&download_url=ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WNDR3700-V1.0.14.98NA.img. This is not the cached link. I simply clicked on the "download 1.0.7.98" and changed the 7 to a 14 in the URL.
