No remote access Windows Home Server 2011

Hi,

it seems like my router is making some trouble with my home server.

I cannot get remote access, neither if i let it setup via UPNP nor via manual port forwarding.

Any suggestions what i can do?

From searching the internet i found out that the WNDR3700 is somehow causing the trouble.

Thanks!

Re: No remote access Windows Home Server 2011

WHS 2011 should forward the ports automatically through the router, but it doesn't seem to work for the WNDR3700. You need to manually forward the following ports to your WHS LAN ip address. Make sure you use address reservation to ensure your WHS gets the same LAN ip every time it boots.

https port 443
http port 80
rdp port 3389
rww port 4125

Re: No remote access Windows Home Server 2011

Thanks for the quick reply.

I already reserved an IP for WHS and forwarded the first two ports, but not those two:

rdp port 3389
rww port 4125

Hope that makes the difference 🙂

Will try it today.

Thank you!

Re: No remote access Windows Home Server 2011

I don't have mine deactivated and it works with manual port forwarding, but you could always try it. Can you access your WHS website using https://xxxx.homeserver.com where xxxx is the domain name prefix you registered with the microsoft DNS registrar?

Re: No remote access Windows Home Server 2011

Finally got it! Reason was the router AND my modem from Vodafone... The ports has to be forwarded on it too. Did not know this. Thanks for your help!

Re: No remote access Windows Home Server 2011

Sounds like you may be doing double NAT. You might want to put your modem in bridge mode as you may see other problems. If the WNDR3700 shows a private ip like 10.xx.xx.xx at it's internet port, you are doing double NAT.

Re: No remote access Windows Home Server 2011

1. do not test your external connection behind the router. although I think 3700 has now loopback support on firmware updates

2. per said already. make sure 3700 has public IP on WAN side and not 10.x.x. or 192 IP. this will fail to work

On WAN side it has a 192. adress.

So that´s bad?
