R6300v2 connect to ZTE MF920T troubleshooting

Issue: unable to connect ZTE MF920T 4G LTE wifi router to R6300v2 via WPS buttons

Actions taken thus far:

- Reset R6300v2 to Factory Defaults

- disabled all security (i.e. now OPEN) on R6300v2

- for WPS, disable PIN (i.e. now PBC) on R6300v2

- on ZTE MF920T for WPS, selected PBC and applied which triggers the searching function (blinking light) for 2 minutes

- as soon as ZTE was searching, pressed the WPS button on the side of the R6300

- both searches concluded after about 2 minutes without success.  ZTE screen indicated unable to connect without any reason

Possible reasons:

- R6300v2 was made in 2013 while the ZTE was made in 2019...maybe some technology issue

- R6300v2 was in use until 2015 and then on a shelf...firmware has not been upgraded

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated!

What makes you think that you can connect 2 routers together via wps? WPS is designed to connect a router and a wireless device like phone/tablet/computer. Not another router.

Running 2 routers isn't ever recommended as you'll run into nat issues.

One needs to be the primary router and the other in AP mode or bridge mode.

If you search for connecting a hotspot to a router, you'll find many answers on how to do it. None of which use wps.

Current Setup: CM2000-> SXK30-> GS716v2-> Arris W31 x2-> Pi-hole->

Re: R6300v2 connect to ZTE MF920T troubleshooting

Thank you. I now have a much better understanding of WPS.

After reseting the R6300 to factory default, establishing a bridge was easy with the Netgear instructions...as long as one is patient.,,really patient!

Of note is that after a bridge is established, the Netgear router being used as a bridge disappears from the list of possible WiFi's (although it does appear as a device connected to the primary router).

Again, thanks for the help.

Re: R6300v2 connect to ZTE MF920T troubleshooting

in bridge mode, the router doesn't retransmit the wifi.

If you're able to hardwire the R6300v2 to the ZTE you can put it in AP mode and it'll act as its own access point.

But in bridge mode, thats exactly what it is. A wireless bridge between the zte and the r6300 so you can use the ethernet ports.
