R6400 and VPN service options
I have read through the VPN information in the manual for this product. I have not purchased one yet. I am new to all the terminology of a VPN. My current router does not offer any type of VPN option and I would like to fix that with the purchase of a new router and this one seems like it would work, but the information is a bit confusing to me.
I am considering paying for a VPN service from one of the options on https://thatoneprivacysite.net/vpn-section/ and want to understand if those type of VPN services will easily work with this router. I can't tell if this is something that would be set up according to the "client-to-gateway tunnel" instructions or if I would need to do something else.
Are the VPN instructions in the manual for this router only if you are to set up your own VPN that does not involve any particular paid VPN service? Is that a better security option than paid services? I like not having to pay for a service, but does this protect and encrypt all of the data on our home network? I'd like to have a secure and encrypted VPN option that is set up on my router where it is possible to let certain devices or websites through that don't handle VPN activity well. Like Netflix or a gaming system for example. Is this possible to do without extensive router and VPN knowledge on this particular router?
Re: R6400 and VPN service options
Yes, the instructions on the manual is only for setting up the OpenVPN feature and does not involve any other VPN service. The feature is only used for connecting from a device/client outside of your network going in. However, you can use other VPN services with the router as a passthrough. The links beloe may help out.
