Router blocking 1 website

Hello,

I have read through the other similar discussions. One specific website has stopped connecting thru my router. This started all of a sudden a few weeks ago. Devices that I can bypass the router via Verizon on my cell phones and Ipad connect, until I go back to my network via WiFi. Hardwired PC's also do not connect to it. My neighbor with the same ISP can connect to this website.

I have tried the MAC Spoof, along with resetting/powering down everything after the MAC Spoof. Still cannot get to this site through my router ?

So what did I do wrong or any other ideas ? Really want to get to this site via my network !

Thanks

Re: Router or ?????? blocking 1 website

Thanks to all who tried to help. Through process of elimination, I decided to exchange the modem under warranty. Installed the new upgraded modem, had it activated by my ISP WOW, and the site is back ??

Whatever, it worked, sad though the hours and hours spent trying to figure this out.

Re: Router blocking 1 website

What website is it? Also, have you tried pinging it? Windows Key + R > CMD > Ping <website.com>. If the ping doesn't work, try "Tracert <website.com>". To copy/paste, right click on CMD windows and click "Select Al" and then press enter and paste into reply.

Re: Router blocking 1 website

Smith-wessonforum.com

Ping timed out

Tracert reports destination host unreachable

Yet, i can bypass router and go right there.

Re: Router blocking 1 website

Have you made any changes to the DNS servers you are using with your router?  Some DNS servers will block gun sites

Re: Router blocking 1 website

Can you post the tracert? Just looking to see if the website resolves to IP 208.71.128.50 or not. If it doesn't, can you post a tracert to 208.71.128.50 directly? Trying to see if its a DNS or firewall issue.

Re: Router blocking 1 website

It looks to be resolving to the correct IP but isn't routing. Can you post a tracert to the same IP when connecting direct to the modem? Also, do you have any parantal controls set up with W.O.W or on the router?

The trace looks to be getting to your ISP, so that tells me its making it past your router, but your ISP isn't allowing it to route. Maybe it works when directly connected because you are getting a different IP when bypassing the router, and that IP block routes?

Re: Router blocking 1 website

I did try going directly PC to modem, but had the same result. Before I forget thanjs for your interest and help !!!

I have never played with any parental controls from the ISP or Netgear, or Norton for that matter.

The only way I reach that one site from here is through Ipad and I phone with the WiFi disconnected on the device.

This is what happened with the PC direct to modem:

If you can't connect to the site when you are bypassing the modem, then it isn't the router doing the blocking.

It does look like a routing issue, since DNS did resolve the address.  So I suggest contacting your ISP.

FWIW Verizon Fios will let me access the site, and ping also works for me.

Also, do you  live in MI? Seems like there are some issues with WOW in MI.See thread here. Overall I would suggest contacting your ISP and see if there are outages in your area. If not, then ask for Tier 2 (I hear bad things about WoW support) and see if they tracert to the site.

Re: Router blocking 1 website

Still nothing happening.

Talked to WOW cable 3 times, supposedly this incident it sent in to the next level of support to review.

Is it worth paying Netgear Premium Service to try and figure it out ?

Hi @Waynefi,

Try MAC spoofing. Some reported that this step works on issues like this.

I misread your earlier post saying that you connected normally when you bypassed the router (I thought you said it failed both ways).

So Mac spoofing is worth a try (setting the router WAN mac address to match the PC that works when you do the bypass).  It is weird though.

Re: Router blocking 1 website

Maybe a brief summary might help;

1- One website suddenly effected a few weeks ago. Been going there for years on this same ISP. Just shows not available.

2- I can shut WiFi off on my I Phone and Pad and get right to the sight, login, etc... via my verizon cell phone service. But cannot when back on my network.

3- Firewall on or off does not matter. No site blocking or parental software ever used.

4- I can go next door and use thier computer and same ISP get to the site and login.

5- Tracert info above in a few replies. Ping also.

6- Same results with Router in, or direct with modem only.

7- Tried MAC Spoofing, I believe I did it right, including powering everything down. Setup in Netgear Router Software now is the same MAC # as my PC that is hardwired to the router.

8- Though the only MAC # my ISP has registered for me is from my modem.

9-  My ISP had tested a few things and had me do a few things no results. Supposedly they escaleted the issue, but that was 4 days ago. I will try then agai this weekend.

Still hoping for a solution.

Any thoughts that it would be worth paying Netgear Premium for help. ? A lot of money if they have no results.

Re: Router blocking 1 website

Can you save off a tracert from the neighbor's PC, and perhaps run a fresh one from yours?  Then you can compare the two route paths.
