USB 3.0 Slow R6400v2 on Gigabit network

USB 3.0 Slow R6400v2 on Gigabit network

Is this the correct speed of the USB 3.0 port?

If it is, why even put a USB 3.0 port on it.

I could just attach a 2.0 drive and get the same speeds.

The drive gets 170 (MegaBytes) per second Read and Write on USB 3.0 on my computers.

but gets a lowsy 36/25 MegaBytes per sec. over the network.

Tested on several Wired 10/100/1000 Mb/s cards with Cat6e 6ft cables.

Also tested connections between computers getting Gigabit speeds.

The router is just slow in regards to the USB 3.0 port.

I have tried updting firmware, and this is my second R6400.

Any ideas, or if this is intended behaviour for the router.

Re: USB 3.0 Slow R6400v2 on Gigabit network

There's a number of factors that influence usb speeds from file types, sizes, usb format, driver performance, etc. Most reviews/testing has put the R6400v2 around that 35-45 mbps read and a little slower write. The models with newer chipsets achieve faster speeds as expected.  Here's smallnetbuilders review of storage performance. SNB does an excellent job of reviews and testing.  For routers in the class that the R6400v2 is, it rates well for usb speeds.

Thank you for the reply, and the link.

Looks like these speeds are expected.

I was hoping to get full network speeds on the USB "3.0" device.

Looks like it's back to a network server which I can get full Gigabit speeds over the network on SATA3.

I've been using the router for a few years, and always wondered why my network drive was so slow.
