Upgrading to Windows 10 Killed Netgear Genie!
I recently upgraded my Windows 7 PC to Windows 10. It seemed to go off without a hitch, except that NetGear Genie no longer works! When I tried opening it up, I got an error message saying that "The code execution cannot proceed because Qt5Core.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix the program.".
So I went out to the internet, downloaded the missing dll, and added it to my computer. Unfortunately, that did not fix the issues. Now when I try to open NetGear Genie up on my PC, I get a new error message that says "The application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b). Click OK to close the application." So it looks like I might need to reinstall a new version of NetGear Genie after all.
I came out to this site, and found some other people who had issues after Windows 10 installations, and there were links for downloads (http://netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie.aspx), but I was a bit confused by those links, because they took me to a page where they are asking me if I have a "Nighthawk" or a "Orbi Mesh Wifi System", of which I have neither. How can I just repair the NetGear Genie on my current system?
Re: Upgrading to Windows 10 Killed Netgear Genie!
Never downoad any kind of code including DLLs from whatever untrusted resources.
On https://www.netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie.aspx there is an intrusive pop-up - just close it using the big [X] top right, then scroll down to this section:
Upgrade today to a Nighthawk to Fully Utilize genie App
For now, the downloads remain available, however there are no more updates - and compatibility with the latest operating systems can fail, e.g. on the current MacOS.
