Using a US router in Australia

I'm currently in Australia for a couple of months and I brought my router with me. What do I have to do to get it to work in Australia. Will I need a firmware upgrade? Will an adapter work or do I need a power converter? Thanks for your help.

Unlikely. Check the support site for any region specific firmware.

What does the label on the adapter say? Even if it says 110V, most people find that it works happily on 240V. No reports of "bang", and the adapter will die before the router gets hit, but you can always buy a power adapter. Any generic adapter will work, as long as it has the right volts, enough amps and a tip with the right (+/-) polarity and dimensions.

The one area where you may see issue is the wifi region. Some newer routers lock down their wireless so that you cannot change the region. These seems to be limited to stuff sold in the USA, probably for legal reasons to do with permitted wifi bands.
