Using a USB3 drive as a NAS

I have just had U-Verse installed which has 80211ac so my MacBook Air can connect at around 0.8 Gbps.  I have a Toshiba 1TB external drive that I use for back up but would like to attach this to my network as a NAS.  I need a device that has a Gigabit Ethernet port as well as a powered USB3 port.

Does Netgear make such a device?
Thanks
Alan

Hi @ENGLISHREBEL,

Yes, please see the NETGEAR product page for routers. There, you can run comparisons between the products to see which fits your requirements. Many of the routers listed do have Gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.0

Hi @ENGLISHREBEL,

Not sure what is considered expensive for you.

You can simply checkmark the "Add to compare" for several of the router options below R7000 then click on "View Comparison" or use the filtering options on the left-hand side.

For range extenders, only the EX7000 and EX6200 have USB 3.0

Well I'm looking to spend around $30.  Do you offer a 80211n router with USB3?  I don't need high speed as my at&t gateway has 80211ac.  All I need is something to allow me to plug a USB3 drive into my network

Hi @ENGLISHREBEL,

I don't believe you will find a N router with USB3.0 within that price range. USB3.0 is included in more recent router/extender models.

Not sure what an extender does but would allow me to connect my drive to the network?
Thanks

Hi Englishrebel,

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24801/~/what-is-a-wireless-extender%3F

Information can be found on the official webpage that was linked previously.

For example: EX6200 -

http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-range-extenders/EX6200.aspx#tab-features

"READYSHARE® USB - Wirelessly share & access USB storage connected to the USB 3.0 port."
