Updated, doesn't seem to be any difference. However, it's comforting to know Netgear is on the ball with it's older routers....although maybe not as fast as everybody would want.

They are not on the ball with version V1 of the same router. Last official firmware is over a year old.

V1 is very stable with the .36 f/w release. I can't think of a reason to update it, even though there are newer releases out there.

Re: V2 - v1.0.3.8_1.0.60

Hi
With the new firmware, the router is accessible (remote management) although remote management is turned of in the admin panel. It's even accessible without entering a port number (login screen to r6300v2 appears), just enter the public ip address and you get to the login screen. That's worse than turning remote management on with a specific port.

Please fix it.

Went back to older firmware where this function works correctly.

You don't need the port number if you are on you LAN only if you are out side your network.

Re: V2 - v1.0.3.8_1.0.60

Why does Netgear always seem to release products to market in such a poor state?

It's been 18 months since I purchased this router and still:

- Wifi does not handle multiple devices too well / perform (marketing hype?)
- Guest Wifi simply disappears and requires a reboot to re-initialise - very regular occurance
- Security - not convinced that Guest WiFi users are unable to connect to network / resources when R6300v2 settings are set to disable.
- Security - no way to specifically identify MACs as guest devices or visual separation of guest devices within the GUI
- Security - no obvious way to monitor unauthorised connections without drowning in informational messages.
- Security - use of Genie software exposes router passwords
- Security - very concerned about reports that the Management
- Who knows what else?

Been a customer for over 10 years and now Netgear will not allow even a chat session (90 days after registration)!

Should be 90 days after the kit is fit for purpose!!

"Security - use of Genie software exposes router passwords"

Something my son told me. So we (like many others) don't use Genie software anymore. Maybe they could fix this. Maybe online security isn't such a big deal.

Re: V2 - v1.0.3.8_1.0.60

Hello all,

I recently upgraded to firmware version 1.0.3.8_1.0.60 and found out that I am unable to access my IP cameras. Turns out that the new rule engine in 1.0.60 only checks to see if the LAN side port is used and does not include an IP address. Therefore, when I try to forward WAN port 8081 to LAN 192.168.0.10:80 in addition to WAN port 8082 to LAN 192.168.0.12:80, it fails. The router believes that port 80 LAN side is already in use by 192.168.0.10 and won't allow 192.168.0.12:80 to complete.

I know this is a bug, as each IP address should have its own port definition. The only workaround I have for it thus far is to go back to firmware version 1.0.2.86, where this scenario works flawlessly.

Re: V2 - v1.0.3.8_1.0.60

Me too re the broken port forwarding. Netgear evidently don't bother with code reviews or any kind of verification before releasing their latest rubbish to us.

I'd get fired on the spot for pushing this rubbish out in my job.

1.0.2.86 no good to me as it does not support No-IP which was added later on.

veletron, I agree the port port forwarding needs to be fixed. I might have to install DD-WRT. David

Re: V2 - v1.0.3.8_1.0.60

Can anyone tell me which firmware version is more stable?

Believe it or not I'm still on the initial release of firmware & not having any trouble after 18 months of use.

Only reason I'd even consider upgrading is the improved USB 3.0 performance from 1.0.3.2. I'm not certain it's worth the trouble to upgrade. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: V2 - v1.0.3.8_1.0.60

V1.0.3.22_10.0.67 Is the latest and most stable version of the firmware. Not sure why anyone would want to run anything previous. All functions including IPv6 have been running great! 🙂
