    Re: WNDR3700v2/WNDR37AVv2 v1.0.0.36

I tried the v1.0.0.36 update, but couldn't get the router to accept the file. I tried updating from the router, downloading the file from the website and then uploading it to the router, but neither method worked. I was connected to the router via an ethernet cable.

I then tried the tftp method that was recommended to go back to V1.0.0.12. That worked perfectly, so I am going to stick with this version as my router finally works again.

Just spent 2 hours sweating and trying to get the 36 on from version 32. It wouldn't automatically update through the router or after downloading the new firmware. Had to use TFTP . Hopefully, I won't have to go through this ordeal again if another firmware comes out. One thing for sure, I won't be recommending a Netgear router to a novice user or anybody for that mater. Re: WNDR3700v2/WNDR37AVv2 v1.0.0.36

I'm at a complete loss as to why the router won't update in a normal manor. By normal I mean not using TFTP. I wonder if the starting firmware makes a difference. Does the update issue only happen from v1.0.0.32, or does it also happen going from v1.0.0.12?

Although some may have read this elsewhere, I didn't include this in my initial post:

If the only thing this firmware has is a fix to the WLAN communication and the ability to downgrade the firmware, it doesn't seem worth the trouble to update. These are items that the v1.0.0.12 firmware is already capable of doing.

Given the circumstances and if your router is already using v1.0.0.12, I suppose that's worth repeating that here, too.

The only thing I can suggest is report the issue to Netgear by clicking here. Hopefully if enough people report this update issue it will get fixed.

    Re: WNDR3700v2/WNDR37AVv2 v1.0.0.36

I have tried to upgrade the firmware again since it went "public". It's still the same situation, giving the same message that it is the wrong firmware and will not complete the installation. I tried it through the router and also downloaded the file and tried it that way.

I reported the situation to Netgear but they will not do anything to assist as they say my router's warranty has expired as of 2 months ago! I think that is totally disgraceful! They caused the problem by sending out a buggy update so they should help repair the damage, warranty or no warranty! This is the 2nd Netgear router I have purchased and it will be the last. I also will not recommend them to anyone. There is no excuse for this poor level of customer support and I intend to write and tell them so.

Later, I will try to figure out how to do the TFTP procedure. I really hope I can do it as the router has not operated correctly since the v32 mess was sent through. Wish me luck....

    Re: WNDR3700v2/WNDR37AVv2 v1.0.0.36

Same for me: tried to upgrade from 1.0.0.32 to 1.0.0.36 with all methods mentioned before:
    - downloaded the file to local HD and uploaded it to the router with the "firmware upgrade" dialog:
    "the firmware file is uncorrect"
    - used the link "a new firmware upgrade is available. click the link to get..."
same result: this formare file is not correct...
    - used tftp: "unable to get response from server"

i assigned a static ip on my win7 pc which was connected with a cable to the router... I reserved this ip address in the router...

Just an annotation here for Mr AdvancedNETGEARExpert....

    http://forum1.netgear.com/showpost.php?p=432786&postcount=7

IF a manufacturer (e.g. Netgear) release a firmware allowing people to upgrade and then pull it back, its manufacturer fault, period.
IF a manufacturer (e.g. Netgear) release a buggy fw (like .32) and don't pull it back, its manufacturer fault, period.
In BOTH cases manufacturer should quickly address the issue.

What you stated it's a very good suggestion and a rule every professional know very well, but since here we're in SOHO environment, manufacturer should take even more attention, especially given the fact that new GUI prompt you with the firmware upgrade every login.....

    my 2 cents

    Re: WNDR3700v2/WNDR37AVv2 v1.0.0.36

Since no one in this thread is denying Netgear's roll, your point is ill timed. BTW, the .32 firmware was pulled. IMO, not soon enough, but it was pulled despite your claim to the contrary. It's Netgear's firmware, of course they are 100 percent responsible and should take the brunt of the criticism. No one has suggested otherwise.

Now lets talk about the roll of the consumer. Have you filed a bug report with Netgear? Instead of complaining to me, file a bug report. The more people that file a report the more likely Netgear will "quickly address the issue". Also, some consumers are under the misconception that they are without some criticism. Ignorance of your equipment is no excuse. You own the router, you are in control of the router and in no way did Netgear force the upgrade upon you.

To suggest that because the "GUI prompt you with the firmware upgrade every login" is a reason to update is nothing more than a crutch. If the user had read the user manual, or even taken a minuscule amount of time to look in the router's configuration, they would have quickly learned that "Check for new version upon login" can be disabled. I've suggested disabling that option for almost two years.

You also seem to be under the misconception that I have a hand in creating, testing and/or releasing the firmware. I do not work for Netgear. I merely tried to help a fellow user by finding the firmware that they asked about. And, in doing so, I provided a warning. That warning, when placed in context, was relevant at that time since the firmware wasn't publicly made available. When it became public, again I warned people.

At nearly every opportunity I've tried to educate people in this forum about the potential dangers of blind updates to their router. Particularly a router that is working fine. If someone decides to not heed my warning and updates their router and then finds the router now has issues, it's not due to the lack of me not trying.

Couple of questions. (I´m on 1.0.0.12)

Does the new .36 firmware has the new GUI ?
Does the new .36 add new features ?

    Re: WNDR3700v2/WNDR37AVv2 v1.0.0.36

According to the release notes (see the first post), there is no indication that either of those things take place in the .36 firmware. What the release notes suggest is, that the fixes in .36 make it the equivalent of the .12 firmware, but with a higher version number. If there is something new in .36, Netgear didn't bother to mention it in the release notes.

So far, everyone who has attempted to update from .32 to .36 from within the router has received an error. Yet, according to the post 'raginkestrel' made, using TFTP will apparently get .36 onto the router and it works fine. But, so did the .12 firmware for most people.

If you decide to take the plunge and manage to get .12 updated to .36 from within the router, please let the rest of us know.

    Re: WNDR3700v2/WNDR37AVv2 v1.0.0.36

I have had v2 with the .32 upgrade issues for months. Have tried to hard reset, downgrade to prior versions, etc. Since the time of the update that seemed automatic, i have continuously had problems with my wireless signals and printers. I really want the .36 to take, but have tried everything over the weekend to get it to take - nothing. It says wrong file. I am so frustrated it is amazing. I think NetGear owes everyone a new router as I feel like I have been the tech support team.

If anyone knows how to get the .36 update on the router, please share the steps. I am pretty savvy, but very VERY frustrated. We use the router and a netgear repeater 2000, and have so many connection troubles since the .32 update. Help Please.
