WNDR3700v4 Firmware v1.0.1.42 Released (07/18/2013)

The v1.0.1.42 firmware update for the WNDR3700v4 is for all regions, except China and Russia.

As always, do not upgrade the router firmware using a wireless connection. Perform the firmware upgrade with a wired connection to the router.

For those that want to experiment with Netgear's latest, you might want to consider using the "Check and Change" guide for one way to properly update your router's firmware. You can find the link to the guide in my sig, near the top of this forum or by clicking here. While the guide was written before the release of the WNDR3700v4, with a little preplanning and very little effort, 'Step Four' should provide the proper means.

Otherwise, at the very least don't use saved configuration files between different firmware versions. Also, after changing the firmware unplug the power from both the modem and router. Wait a couple of minutes and power up the modem and allow the modem to re-sync. Then power up the router. Doing these minor things before posting about issues with the firmware will help others, help you.

    Re: WNDR3700v4 Firmware v1.0.1.42 Released (07/18/2013)

I have a problem with this FW. After few hours or day my speed drops by half.

I think i did the update in the right way (status bar freeze at the beginning so i waited few minutes after all lights started working again) using offline update over ethernet.
    Clean update without backuped configuration.
Normal my speed shows as 300Mb/s(Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence is off) but now it shows(after a while) as 144Mb/s and drops lower.
What i did was lan setup to have 2 static IP's and set schedule and block service.
Connection drops from time to time - isn't stable as it was before.

To fix it I have to reboot router and then i have 300Mb/s for few hours.

I tried to load FW again - reset default, load, switch off for minute and then power it again.

Strange thing is that when i load my backup it will work fine without any problems.

Am I a luck guy or there might be something wrong with this FW or should I try to load this FW again?

    Regards

If you believe that you have updated the firmware properly and haven't missed something in the router's configuration, then you could try rolling back to the previous firmware version to see if everything returns to normal.

    Re: WNDR3700v4 Firmware v1.0.1.42 Released (07/18/2013)

To date, Netgear has publicly released two firmware versions for the WNDR3700v4. This one, the v1.0.1.42 and the initial release, the v1.0.1.32. You can directly download the v1.0.1.32 firmware by clicking here. When rolling back, the same rules mentioned in post two (above) regarding properly changing the firmware still applies.

I don't have the v4 but having had terrible times with the two latest firmwares on the v2 I wonder if netgear is actually capable of releasing a problem free firmware nowadays. It has been pretty shambolic and looking at some of the other router models on the forum I see a similar tale of destruction throughout. Clearly netgear are not QA testing any firmwares brought out. It's so dissapointing.

Scottyboy99, I, too, have the v2 and totally agree it's not only disappointing but most unfortunate. I've been considering staying with Netgear and switching to the WNDR 4500. But same as with you, my experience with the 2 most recent firmware updates for 3700v2 is making that a hard call.

    Re: WNDR3700v4 Firmware v1.0.1.42 Released (07/18/2013)

Maybe somebody can help. After upgrading to the new firmware my router lost all graphics in in admin interface. Basically all menus became a list of words (though clicable), but all graphic elements (buttons, backgrounds, menus, font types) just disappeared. I had reverted to the old firmware, but the problem remains.
    Thank you in advance,
    Gene

Use different browser, clear cache. For me the best is Opera - no problems else as yours.

Thanks fro the response. I tried three browsers and cleaned caches. Sadly, it didn't help. Interesting enough that when I connected the router to my laptop (without modem) the web interface looked normal.

    Hi gene07,

Did you do a reset on the router after doing the update? If not, try to do a reset and observe the connection. Everything is working fine on my end.

Hi. Thanks fro the reply. I did try to reset. I guess I am mostly baffled by the fact that the gui interface forks when I connect to the router from my laptop. However, the interface is broken when I connect from the desktop machine.

    Which one for example.
Reset to default, reboot - check is ok if not - go back to 1.32 - in my opinion network is more stable as it was on 1.42.

Sounds like your ISP gave you an external IP that's blocked by these websites. Try "Use Computer MAC Address".

stanley1, post #14 hhmmmm... That's strange? On your old firmware it was working right? Then, you upgraded to .42 and it did not work. You tried downgrading to .32 and still you are not access the site? Do you have any error on your screen?

never worked on both versions of netgear .32 or .42, no errors on screen, have swapped in d-link and linksys routers and both work seamlessly, router is working fine on dd-wrt firmware.

 you may try to put static DNS on your router's admin page. It might be a DNS problem on the router.

I have exactly the same problem. I have wndr3700v4, firmware V1.0.1.52.
It is blocking youtube and google play, so it is not something minor...
Has anybody found a solution for this problem? (It seems to be well known and in some cases ended with "never ever netgear" - I don't wan't to reach there, I just switched from belkin...)
