WNDR4500 constant Wireless disconnects

Hi Hope someone can shed some light before I return this product.
When I am hardwired into the router, my connection is fine!

When I am wireless I get constant disconnects. Is there a setting I am missing or is it a firmware issue? I Just bought and installed this hardware!

Need this to be more reliable as I work from home.

OS is Windows XP SP3

I think the firmware is 1.0.1.18 currently does .20 have some fixes for this?

Re: WNDR4500 constant Wireless disconnects

I have 3 laptops using the 4500 and they are windows7. The 4th laptop is XP. I notice the XP laptop will also randomly loose connection like your XP does. I have not looked into it but thinking maybe the wireless software needs it's drivers updated or just reinstall the intel wireless and try that. I have not looked into it, but if it disconnects more frequent I may do as I mentioned above and see. For now I only drop signal maybe every 15-30 minutes, but rarely use the XP laptop.

Only the XP laptop. Seems all other devices work fine. iPad, iPhone all seem to remain connected.

Re: WNDR4500 constant Wireless disconnects

How are these Wifi Manufacture Drivers / apps identified? Is there some location in Windows that will tell me?

Encryption? Security option I chose was WPA2-PSK

The rest of the setup is out of the box. No changes

Re: WNDR4500 constant Wireless disconnects

ZPIZZA, I looked in control panel, administrator tools, selected event viewer, then click system, and just had a lost internet connection then it gained connection again. The only thing listed in the even t viewer was: TCPIP with a event number 4201 Right clicking on this event and selecting properties it said: The system detected network adaptor \DEVICE\TCPIP_{04E2C1FF-8245-952C-7C0BF1CE1B74} was connected to the network, and has iniated normal operation over the network adaptor. But it don't say what disconnected it. Maybe this helps, maybe not. But this popped up in my event viewer right after I lost my connection using XP

Funny. I never get a message in the event viewer on disconnects. But thanks Ron351 and also to jmizoguchi for your continued assistance.

Strange it don't list that in event viewer, does every time my computer re-connects. Oh well, thought it may help.
