WNR2000v5 keep droping conneciton. FOR HOURS!

Routers set to factory default. Frimware V1.0.0.28

When It's set to dynamically get IP and connection drops light goes yellow while down.
When it's set to static IP and connecton drops light stays green while down.

Randomly the connection (for everything wired and wireless) will just drop. Can't ping anything besides the router. Once the router is removed connection is fine.

Logs will so something like :
[Internet disconnected] Saturday, June 06, 2015 16:01:09
[Internet disconnected] Saturday, June 06, 2015 16:00:32
[Internet disconnected] Saturday, June 06, 2015 15:59:21
[Internet disconnected] Saturday, June 06, 2015 15:56:29

and it can last for hours.

Any idea's?

Can we have details of your modem please, manufacturer and model number. When you say “Randomly the connection (for everything wired and wireless) will just drop” do you mean that they lose contact with the WNR2000 or that they just lose Internet access?

Netgear WNR2000v5 and they all lose internet access. I can ping the routers IP access it's webpage (http://www.routerlogin.net/index.htm) and that's it.

That's your router, not a modem. Do you have a modem, or does the router connect to the Internet in some other way?

Re: WNR2000v5 keep droping conneciton. FOR HOURS!

My bad.

I go through a local WISP that use's an Ubiquiti nanostation not sure what version the back where it would be listed is hidden. Going assume NanoStation M NSM2 as it has 2 mounting brackets and pretty sure it's 2.4ghz around here.

OK, I can see what that is but I’m not familiar with it, how does a computer or router connect to it, by Ethernet? Does it need a ‘keep alive’ response e.g. ‘respond to ping on WAN’ from the router? If you can connect a computer directly to the NanoStation does it see the same issue of dropped conenctions?

Re: WNR2000v5 keep droping conneciton. FOR HOURS!

Ya it uses a Ethernet cable.

Computer -> router -> PoE box -> nanostation ~~wireless~~ WISP tower

When connection directly to it (remove the router) it does not drop.

Don't know anything about the ‘keep alive’.

In the router WAN Settings there should be an option to 'Respond to Ping from WAN' which is sometimes used as a 'keep alive' test by ISP equiipment to keep a connection active.

My WAN page:

I played with that page the other day (MTU was 1500 most of them wasn't checked) still drops.

Since a direct connection by the computer seems to work OK, you could try changing the router’s WAN side MAC address, in the router’s Basic Settings page you should see an option to ‘Use computer MAC Address’, give that a try, you may need to power cycle the NanoStation after applying that setting.

Re: WNR2000v5 keep droping conneciton. FOR HOURS!

I'm a genius...

Before I tried telling it to use xx.xx.xx.xx (My main computers mac) which lead to a very choppy and bogged down connection. I just noticed there's a "Use Computer MAC Address " option hopefully that one will work.

Some times the drops miss a day so I'll let you know in two~ days if it worked.

Re: WNR2000v5 keep droping conneciton. FOR HOURS!

If I buy an Ubiquiti airRouter (same maker was WISP nanostation) think I'll have better luck?

Re: WNR2000v5 keep droping conneciton. FOR HOURS!

It’s hard to say if you’ll have better luck when we haven’t got to the root cause of the issue, perhaps the manufacturer of the NanoStation would have ideas on what you could use or why might lead to repeated dropped connections? It could be that the issue also occurs with other devices connected, but it's just a lot less obvious that it's happening?
