Is there a source that provides details about what is included in a backup? References to doing a factory reset to resolve the DNS issue in the recent firmwares have me considering it but I haven't found any details on the restoration process after the reset. I'm not asking about how to do it but want to know what is and isn't included in the backup (password?, password recovering security questions?, that kind of stuff).

That is my experience, but those are probably the least important settings to most people. Things that are a pain to setup, like IP address reservations and anything that requires a lot of effort, matter more.
