Would a USB wireless dongle help?
Hi,
I connect to my DGND3700 router via WiFi from a laptop. All is well until the laptop suddenly disconnects and reconnects. Also the connection speed varies from 1 second to the next.
If I have the laptop right next to the router then I get a connection speed of 130Mbs. The laptop is a few years old and I believe that this is the quickest the connection speed can be, using the built-in WiFi.
I am sure that I could take the laptop to bits and install a newer wireless card, but I'd rather just plug in something like the NETGEAR RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB Adapter WNDA3100v2.
My questions are:
1. Will this give me higher speed network performance (i.e. Up to 300Mbs that the router is broadcasting)?
2. If I just deactivate the built-in WiFi, will the USB device work OK and cause no conflicts?

Re: Would a USB wireless dongle help?
depending on built-in wifi adapter spec but put to 144Mbps uses 20Mhz (single channel) so if adapter only supports 20Mhz then it will go high as 144Mbps so 130Mbps is right. do some homework on laptop manufacture support site for spec or call laptop support to verify it.
if that is the case getting other newer usb adapter can go high as 300Mbps while you disable built-in wifi. Some laptop , and most can replace the mini PCIe card in the laptop so you don't have to use USB. that is other options

Hurrah!
The 20/40 MHz rang a bell. I went into device manager and changed a few settings and now I have at least tripled the connection speed.
