Zixi Video Engine Disabled. Why?

I recall Netgear’s CES 2011 presentation (which you can view on YouTube) and when they demoed the WNDR3800. They prominently demoed the Zixi video technology feature. Why is it hidden and disabled from the average user? Support could not give me an answer.

To enable the Zixi Video Algorithm for the WNDR3800, go to http://192.168.1.1/hidden_info.htm or http://routerlogin.net/hidden_info.htm Enter your ID and password you would use to log into the Genie Administration (default is admin & password). Here you will see lots of info on your router. Right above “Board HW ID” which shows your serial#, amount of flash RAM & router RAM is “Enable zixi”. Check the box to enable. Then reboot your router.

Re: Zixi Video Engine Disabled. Why?

When you have a lower end or slowed (throttled) broadband connection the Zixi feature will help to prevent the loss of video packets, prevent buffering and maintain smoother video playback across multiple devices simultaneously in all types of connections to the router (wired, 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz frequencies).

You can watch one of the demos from Netgear @ CES a year or so ago from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKGbXIZyW9U&feature=related

Thanks. I wonder why is it disabled by default. I have not tested if it makes a difference enabled.

Re: Zixi Video Engine Disabled. Why?

Wow - this setting made a big difference when streaming video! Noticeable improvement on Youtube and other sites. And, I only stumbled on this feature while posting in this forum about something else!! You would think this would be proudly advertised and enabled by default. Not sure why this would ever be disabled!
