firmware update checksums

2 questions.
I have a WNR3500Lv2 running V1.2.0.54_50.0.94 which i purchased new recently.

I downloaded firmware V1.2.0.56_50.0.96 directly from the NETGEAR product support page. But how can I verify the download? Are there any checksums posted so I can insure the firmware came through as expected?

Also, when I do a firmware update check using NETGEAR genie it returns "No new firmware version available". However, netgear website lists 1.2.0.56 as the current version. Why is that?

Thanks.

Re: firmware update checksums

If you pull the update directly from Netgear it should be fine. I have not seen this question before so I don't think there is a problem.

The Firmware Check is frequently behind. Just trust what the update page at Netgear says.

Netgear doesn't publish checksums for its firmware kits.  The zip
archive structure itself includes CRC-32 checksums, and any competent
unzip program will complain about a corrupt archive which is identifed
by a bad internal checksum.  (If you can, try to damage a zip archive,
and see what happens when you extract its contents.)

So, you can't verify authenticity, but you can verify integrity with
some confidence.

Netgear's firmware distribution procedures seem unlikely to win any
awards for organization.  Search these forums (or the Web) for more
instances of similar questions.
