general router LAN port use

(question pertains to both this current router + future AX router)

Again, PLEASE feel free to speak 'techno-inept'..no idea what LAN even means!

Both current router (which I plan to 'pass-on' to daughter's family) & AX waiting on

have several LAN ports...my MS-employed + obviously MUCH more techno-savvy

neighbor asked me "why aren't you 'plugging devices' into your router"?  To which

I so eloquently replied "huh"?.  He said the wifi printer sitting on shelf 6' away is an

ideal candidate.  And since we're now raising (and subsequently 'hybid schooling')

3 grandkids, I should 'plug-in' their Chromebooks into LAN ports too; even if they

are only 'plugged-in' while in my office for a couple hours doing homework.   ???

   Try a Web search?

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_area_network

> [...] ???

A device which has an Ethernet interface can usually be connected to
a LAN Ethernet port on a router, instead of using a (LAN) wireless
connection.  You typically gain speed and reliability, but lose
portability.

A Web search for terms like, say, "home network" might have some
educational value, too.

Re: general router LAN port use

well hell, seems too simple (or me too stupid) once you actually SEE

"Local Area Network" visually spelled out
