Did you already upgraded the firmware of the router?

Is it listed on the compatibility list?

Yes, the USB drive is available under "USB Drive Approved Devices".

I have added three additional captures. They concern 'Folder Options' . . . these options determine what you can or cannot see in 'Windows Explorer' . . .
I now see hidden folders. (But the whole drive can't be hidden, can it?)

I've got AVG 9.0 firewall running. I tried to turn it off and reboot. But I still can't see either the readyshare or the mac on the network.

Re: usb storage WD 2 TB disk WNDR3700 not showing up in windows 7
At this point, I am willing to bet it wouldn't make a difference what USB HD you attach to the WNDR3700, you still wouldn't see it. Reinstall Windows 7 . . . 😞

Only add an AntiVirus program . . . Strongly suggest 'Avast!' . . .
There is no need for a third party firewall . . . Windows 7's firewall along with the WNDR3700 provides more than adequate protection . . .

Re: usb storage WD 2 TB disk WNDR3700 not showing up in windows 7
I had exactly the same problem you experienced the beginning of the thread. I did have another Windows 7 machine that worked for some reason.
I went through each service one by one and found the one that "turns" it on.
It turned out to be the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service. It started working immediately after I started this service.

I am having this same problem. How do you turn on the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service in Windows 7??
Weird too because it works perfectly on my windows vista desktop, but not my windows 7 desktop...
Thanks!

In the control panel -> system and security -> administrative tools -> services
They're sorted alphabetically by default. Highlight the service and start it.

I am in no way affiliated with Netgear other than as a consumer. Anything I advise may break your router and void your warranty.
