Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

Hello, I am new to this forum.

We have just purchased a DGND3700v2 device for our home network. The device is great for internet access and wifi performance, however printing is a problem.

Currently, we have 1 x iMac ethernet connection (working fine), several Macbook and iPhone devices connected via WIFI (all working fine), 1 x Apple TimeMachine backup system (working fine - all computers backing up correctly).

However:

Have two printers (HP1320n and HP2600n) connected via ethernet. Both configured for DHCP and visible on routerlogin.net. The admin screens of the printers are also visible via browser.

Have configured printers in Mac System Preferences.
Can print from wired iMac no problem.
Can print from wifi laptop but only until laptop is closed.

Next attempt to print fails, with error "cannot find printer". Yet, printer admin screen can be accessed via browser. Isolation is NOT enabled.

We need to print to our ethernet connected printers reliably, but clearly have not set them up correctly--presumably a setting in DGND3700v2 is not correct.

Help!

Many thanks -prc.

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

More information:

After rebooting the iMac, it can no longer print either...

So, the problem seems to be related to the allocation of DHCPs possibly, or some other routing table problem.

Use a static IP for the printer

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

OK, tested with MacBook connected via WIFI to DGND3700v2. HP1320n still connected via ethernet cable to DGND3700v2

Same problem as before.

set printer to 192.168.0.250

rebooted printer

removed printer from MacBook config and added "new" printer

Printed www page, no problem

closed MacBook lid, opened lid

Printed same www page...PROBLEM "The printer is not connected"

Version V1.1.0015 software, if that makes any difference?

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

Forgot to mention. Delete printer and reinstall on all devices. Look for sleep mode on printer and disable.

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

Have removed printer from all devices.
Switched all devices OFF except one laptop being used to testing.

Could not find sleep mode on printer configuration...

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

You need to go Macbook and try below

System Pre>energy saver> make sure "wake for network access " is checked

Wake for network access is checked already .

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

Interesting development...

Left the job in the print queue ("printer not connected") and went to get a drink. Came back to find the print job had been printed! Ran another job straightaway and it printed almost immediately.

So, maybe there is a delay somewhere while the devices "find" each other after the WIFI-connected laptop is restarted, or something like that? This never occurred with our previous Linksys WRT54G and static IP connected printers....

...confused.

Will run the same test on the ethernet connected iMac now to see if same behaviour...

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

How are you setup on printer under system pref>printer? Did you use IP instead of bonjour "default"?

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

Correct, the printer is set up under Default / Bonjour option.

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

Further,
I have now tested three computers: 1 x ethernet-connected iMac, 1 x WIFI-connected MacBookAir (running the new 10.9), 1 x white MackBook. All display the same behaviour, as follows:

When first set up, the printers work beautifully. (HP1320n and HP2600n printers now configured with static IP addresses)

On startup, after sleep mode or a full reboot, the printers report as "printer not connected" if a print job is sent within 90-120 seconds of starting up. However (and this is the good part), the job stays in the queue and it does go to the printer after the computer "finds" the target printer. Second and subsequent print jobs are almost immediate.

If the first print job is not sent until after (about 3 minutes) after startup, then the printer is known to the computer and printing is almost immediate.

This pattern is consistent on all three computers.

If may well be that a setting in the DGND3700v2 is not correct (causing the slow "finding" of the ethernet-connected printers), however unless and until we discover what that might be, we are happy to put up with the delay on the initial print job.

Thank you to everyone who has helped with ideas. I hope to reciprocate one day!

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

I would try static IP on printer and try use IP setup for printer in each mac side.

The printers are set for static IP. 192.168.0.250 and 192.168.0.251.

What do you mean by "use IP setup for printer in each mac side"?? Sorry, but I don't understand

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

Go to add printer under system pref-printer with static ip and not by bonjour

Thank you. I will try this tonight, to see if it makes any difference, and report back.

Re: Cannot print to ethernet connected printers :(

Doesn't seem to have made any difference, so will revert to prior configuration, which seems to work OK. Thank you for your help.
