Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

So today I bought a WNDR4500 to replace my old router. I followed the instructions, power off modem, connect router to modem, turn on modem, then turn on the router. Here it says wait for the 2.4GHz LED to light up but the only thing my router does is has the power light flash green. I have reset the router and my modem and still nothing different. I can't even get to www.routerlogin.net or anything with my pc connected to the router. Any help would be awesome, thanks.

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

try holding in the reset button then plug in the power and keep it pressed for 60 seconds, then unplug, release the reset and power up again.

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

there is a way to get around that blinking light. It's just corrupted firmware. I had the same issue when i bought mine....and I am amazed at how dumb tech support is.

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18989/kw/wndr4500%20corrupted%20firmware%20recovery%20... this fixed it for me and i didn't have to return it. Especially if you can't even log into your router GUI.

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

Thanks! you saved me I bought it in the U.S. and am now out of the country.
Returning it would not be easy. followed the instructions and dropped the FW in and it now it works like a charm.
Don't be to hard on tech support. That solution is pretty hardcore. Most people would prefer to return a router...
Nice bit of engineering being able to update the FW even when FW is corrupted...

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

blacksunshine,

In those instructions I do have ONE DUMB question.........

If using windows XP, it says go to the cmd prompt and use "cd" command to navigate to the folder where your firmware is downloaded............ my question is, how do you navigate to the firmware from the command prompt? It just says use cd command. For someone who is intermediate that instruction doesn't help.

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

place the file on the c drive then keep doing cd.. (enter key)
cd.. (enter key)
cd.. until the prompt reads
C:\>

then your at the start of the c drive where the file is.

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

place the firmware on the desktop

go to Start >run CMD and hit return

first box pops up will already defaulted to desktop

try dir and hit return

you can find the file you save

easier to save tftp and firmware on desktop and follow rest of the command

First, do you know which folder the file is in? Let's assume that it is in C:\My Documents\Downloads for Windows XP. Open the command prompt. You can either start by typing

cd \

to take you to the root directory (sorry, folder, I'm an old DOS man) and then

cd "My Documents"\Downloads

Alternatively, you can just type

cd \"My Documents"\Downloads

from the iniial command line regardless of what folder it's in. When changing folders that have long filenames or multiple word names in XP, you need to enclose them quotation marks IIRC. It doesn't hurt to do it anyway.

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

Thank you Blacksunshine for posting a link to that knowledge base article.

I accidentally bumped the on/off switch of the power strip into which my router was plugged in. It caused the power strip (and of course the router) to turn off for just a split second - but the router immediately stopped working after that.

It is a N900 (WNDR4500) router. It would try to power up, but the radio lights (2.5GHz/5GHz) would not come on and the power light would blink green slowly.

It was like 11PM and I was exhausted, so I did the laziest thing possible - I googled "N900 not working power light blinking green." which took me to this thread. This is one case where the laziest action ended up being the best, because I followed the instructions verbatim on the knowledge base article that Blacksunshine linked in his post, and the router is now working properly again!

I'm sure if I had called tech support, they would have RMA'ed the unit and I would be without a router for several days. And the N900 aint cheap.

Thanks again for the help Blacksunshine, this Bud's for you.

And as for "therugbyman" having problems with "tftp not recognized as command"...you have to enable TFTP in Windows' "Programs and Features" settings in the control panel (Win 7), otherwise it will not work. This is covered in the knowledge base article.

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

The green power light is blinking & cannot login.
Do you mean with this instruction we can install firmware without login?

MBR1515 is made for Verizon, it was under warranty & Verizon replaced it but firmware is upgraded from V1.2.2.68 to V1.2.2.77 that changed the interface completely.
Verizon has access to update firmware of router remotely it is V3.2.3.55 now.

Is it legal Verizon does such a upgrade without our autorization?
How can we stop it or downgrade the firmware?

Re: Green Flashing Power Light During Setup

Most these unit are ISP branded so in this case Verizon has rights to do whatever under their rules and also providing the better service by pushing better service

You need to contact Verizon support to deal with the issues Smiley Happy
