Kindle Fire Connection Problems

I bought my wife a Kindle Fire for Christmas. We have a WGT624v2 router with firmware 4.2.11_1.0.1. The Kindle has the latest update. We can get the Kindle to connect for maybe an hour or 1 1/2hours at the most then the router seems to go completely offline. Nothing will connect to the router, even the hardwired PC, until we reboot the router then we are good for another hour or so. It is maddening!! We have a notebook that connects wirelessly and have never had a problem.

Re: Kindle Fire Connection Problems

Yes that is correct. I've also assigned the Fire a static IP address. Didn't change a thing.

Re: Kindle Fire Connection Problems

are you using B&G mode in the router's wireless settings?

Re: Kindle Fire Connection Problems

By the way, the static address I assigned to the Fire was through the router and not on the Fire itself.

Re: Kindle Fire Connection Problems

Set up static IP on Fire and used google DNS. The Fire stayed connected for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours between use and sleep mode then it dropped off. It didn't take the router down with it so that was a change. Very frustrating! I don't know what to do next. Seems like I've tried everythimg.

Re: Kindle Fire Connection Problems

I tried to install inSSIDer and I keep getting a Windows XP info box that says I have to go to the Control Panel to install and configure system options. Help?

Re: Kindle Fire Connection Problems

I have a similar problem to DMARIO. My wife gave me a Kindle Fire for Christmas. I have a WNR3500v2. My Kindle displays several wireless connections. Some have a lock icon on the lower right. They all display the signal strength band. When I select one that indicates a strong band signal and press connect I get a "Connected" message. But then the pad displays an x to the right of the WI_FI icon or I get a message that I don't have an internet connection. Good luck DMARIO.

OK I got inSSIDer to run on my laptop. I am using channel 11 and the other wireless signals are channel 6 or lower.

What can I do now?

To summarize I have the Fire set up with a static ID on the Fire. I am using the Google Public DNS. I am using channel 11 in my wireless area and everyone else is at channel 6 or below. The Fire has the latest firmware update and so does my WGT624 v2 router. The fire works for an hour or so then just falls off and takes down my signal completely.

Thanks. I am getting to the point where I have to decide whether or not I am going to keep it or return it to Best Buy. The rate I'm going I guess it will have to go back. Too bad. It's a neat little device when it is working. The only thing I think that is left to do is to try a more updated router but that is an expensive alternative. My router is old but has always worked well with NO drops.

Sabretooth,

Tried it last night. Connection lasted 1 1/2 hours. Knocked the router offline like always.

Any other thoughts?

Re: Kindle Fire Connection Problems

Hard reset the router, reconfigure and try again. I that does not help, re flash the same firmware or upgrade the firmware, hard reset and power cycle again. Reconfigure and see if that helps.

since you have issue with inssider, try this

http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/

you should scan the network and see how much wireless around you

JMizaguchi,

I did get InSSIDERer to run on my laptop. There are about 4 or 5 other wireless signals in my area and they are all on channel 6, 5 or 1. I am running on channel 11.

I restored back to factory settings. Reflashed the firmware. Put my SSID back to where it was. Same response. Runs for less than 2 hours then the router loses connection.

I guess we should ask, do all your other wireless devices stay connected just fine?
