Latest firmware? Oh, and....

I just installed a new N900. Very Happy! The UI changes are so welcome. It's a HUGE jump up from my old WPN824v3.

The UI let me update the firmware to v1.0.0.70_1.0.18. Is this, in fact, the latest version, or is it only the latest version that can be downloaded with the router's UI?

I'm asking because the other Netgear router I had never picked up on firmware updates. I had to find them and install them manually.

One other thing: Why does your modem have to be COMPLETELY powered down before connecting a router? I thought resetting it would do the same thing, but, no, it doesn't! Today, I learned how to remove the battery from my old Arris modem!

what you see is what you get. unless there is beta firmware out there may fixes issues "IF" you have an issues where beta firmware is there and/or available then ONLY support can supply that..

because that is the way it is. almost anytime you want to boot in sequence. it is smart thing to do and specially for cable modem you have absolutely no choice to boot in sequence or nothing will work. Smiley Happy

OMG THIS ROUTER KICKS BUTT!

I just hooked up a USB hard drive full of MP3's to the N900 and installed the ReadySHARE USB utility on all the wireless PCs in the house. Now, everyone can enjoy my collection without having to physically connect a device to my desktop. I can't believe how far we've come since the 8080. This stuff still feels like science fiction to me.

I am so glad I bought this router. WOW.

Re: Latest firmware? Oh, and....

Usually you can just reset the modem if it has a battery for the telephony part. I have a newer Arris with a battery that you just reset to reboot. They actually tell you in the manual never to take the battery out. On the other hand, if my modem didn't have a the battery for the telephone support, I'd just power-cycle it *smile*.

Glad you're happy with your new router and it's working well for you, by the way, one less thing to think about when you're shuttling video streams around your house *smile*.

Yes it does. Smiley Very Happy

I'd bet most feel this way about the 4500, and we'll rarely read about it on the forum.

Re: Latest firmware? Oh, and....

I bought one of the kids an Acer Aspire laptop, but it wasn't working with the old WPN824v3 router. Two feet away, it wouldn't connect very well. You could browse, but never download anything or watch videos. Updating the wireless card's drivers didn't help. The only way it had a stable connection was via Ethernet.

With the new router, that same laptop connects on the 5G band and is BLAZINGLY fast. In fact, ALL ONLINE ACTIVITIES on ALL my wireless computers is blazingly fast. Videos no longer pause every couple minutes; instead, they play as smoothly as cable TV.

Folks, I am really impressed with this router. Couldn't ask for anything more.

[30 minutes later] Just connected one kid's Xbox and the other kid's Wii gaming system to the router. The Xbox is on the 5G band; I believe the Wii is on the 2.4G band. All the automatic settings worked; all I had to do was enter the network password.

You can't ask for more than that.

Bravo, guys. Very, very nice work. Now I'm a Netgear fanboy.
