Problems with Iphone/Itouch

I have a WNDR4500 and have had so many problems getting my Iphone/Itouch/Ipad to connect, it ended up getting RMA'd for a new unit.

With the new unit, I have both the 2.4 ghz wireless and guest network broadcasting with different SSIDs (both use WPA2-AES security).

Either my Iphone or the WNDR4500 cannot decide which network the Iphone should connect to ... When I specify that the Iphone use the guest network, it will connect for about 20 seconds before the wheel starts turning again and just keeps turning ... it will not switch over to the wireless network. If I specify the Iphone to connect to the wireless network, it takes a long time to decide and then locks on. But I cannot get it to lock on to the guest network.

Clearly the signal strength is identical, and the security/passwords are known to the Iphone ... but the guest network will not connect for more then 20 seconds.

A worse problem is that my Itouch (which seems a little less wifi capable than an Iphone), won't connect to either the wireless or the guest networks. I have even tried "forgetting the networks" on the Itouch and starting with fresh passwords ... but nothing seems to work. This was the same with the original WNDR4500 ... it did the same thing unless I rebooted at least once a day.

What is the problem with the WNDR4500 and Iphones/Itouches?

Re: Problems with Iphone/Itouch

try using 145Mbps speed and not 450Mbps

there is already thread abut iPhone issues using 450Mbps on this model.

user has posted /test 145Mbps setting worked.

Re: Problems with Iphone/Itouch

Try different combinations of Modes and Security settings. Depending on the version of your clients, try Mode = 217 or 54 Mbps, and, if WPA2 does not work, Security = WPS, WEP, or None.

Re: Problems with Iphone/Itouch

I hope someone has an inside track with Netgear, because after exhaustive testing with the wireless devices, even a second (RMA replacement) WNDR4500 seems to have significant DHCP server issues, as the wireless devices can't seem to get an IP assigned without a soft or cold reboot...attached is the complete description. I can't seem to upload the PDF here, but please get the description at http://parishoffice.ipower.com/WNDR4500.pdf
Thanks for any ideas.
