WNDR3400 can't login to access router settings

Just set up a new WNDR3400 to replace a cheap and troublesome router because I've always had trouble-free operation with Netgear stuff... and I can't login to access the router settings. Using "admin" and "password" as per the manual.

When I try, it gives me the message to check that I'm connected to the router, which I am, as I'm using it to type this message. I've tried it wireless and wired.

Any ideas?

Re: WNDR3400 can't login to access router settings

OK, in reading through the troubleshooting FAQ, it looks as though the Genie is only partially functional, and doesn't work at all on the 5G network.

However, I can't log in to www.routerlogin.net, either. Error is message is "can't find server".

Any help would be truly appreciated.

Re: WNDR3400 can't login to access router settings

Found the problem. The router was sitting behind our BT router/modem - in other words, the CAT5 cable from the BT router was going into a network port, not into the Internet port. I can log in to the router now either through Genie or the gateway ID.

Most all router has COLOR CODED and also has stick to tell you only to connect certain port for broadband ( basic setup)

Unless you are color blind then that would be an issues Smiley HappySmiley Happy

Thanks for that. However, when it's connected like that, I can't access the other computers and printers on the rest of the network. So, I'm not color blind, and there was a reason for what I was doing.

Wireless and wired device behind may not communicate if wireless isolation feature is enabled in the router GUI

Re: WNDR3400 can't login to access router settings

Well, I can't log back into the router control panel either after changing SSID and setting passwords. Before that, no problem, works as designed. Also, there is no field to change default login name?

Either wireless or cable, direct connection. After reset to default settings, no problem.

This seems to be a software bug in most recent firmware.

You can NOT change default login name on all Netgear home end routers

Re: WNDR3400 can't login to access router settings

WOW! So does that mean that anyone could log into my router by guessing (not much of a guess) admin / password? Which of course means they could change all my wireless settings as well?
