WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

I've had this router for a week now, it works great and is a lot faster then my previous router. 2 days ago I noticed the big blue WPS light will randomly start blinking on and off for awhile.

There does not seem to be any issues with the router but I'm wondering why it is blinking on and off.

Anyway to just have this light be turned off? It is pretty bright and kind of annoying.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

Yes I've pressed the button and it still does the flashing thing, pressing the button doesn't seem to effect it at all and does not turn off the light

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

It this a V1 or V2 router? Check the model number to see if it says WNDR3400V2. If not, it's a V1.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

Well, I'd ask you to re-flash the firmware but I can't find that firmware on the Netgear site. But if it's not causing any issues, ignore it.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

I've got a new WNDR3400 (not V2) just flashed to V1.0.0.50_20.0.59. I also can't turn off the antenna lights. I tried following the instructions in the manual (p. 6 of WNDR3400_SM_23MAR2010.pdf). If I press and immediately release the dome button (with the blue antenna lights), this starts the WPS function (blue lights start blinking for 2 minutes). (I'm not holding the dome button down for 5 seconds.)

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

After flashing the firmware did you hard reset the router for 30 seconds and release the button. Wait 30 seconds and power cycle. Now go back and reconfigure it from scratch and check.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

Yes - after flashing to WNDR3400-V1.0.0.50_20.0.59.chk, held reset button to default settings. Still can't turn off the blue antenna lights. However, if I downgrade to WNDR3400-V1.0.0.38_16.0.48.chk, reset to defaults, etc. Now the blue antenna lights turn off or on per the user manual.

I've had some problems with WNDR3400-V1.0.0.50_20.0.59.chk dropping wireless connections periodically. Going to see if WNDR3400-V1.0.0.38_16.0.48.chk works any better. So far, I'm not impressed with this router! Maybe I should have bought a different brand or model.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

FYI - the WNDR3400 (V1 not V2) I have was purchased new from Amazon 2 weeks ago. I read somewhere that V2 has been out for 6 months - I guess Amazon has got some old stock.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

I agree with the above. The V2 routers have been out for months. Don't know why you got a V1 but the V2 is stable. I have both the V1 and V2. The V1 is stable on .38 firmware. It is not in use as I keep it as a back up if the V2 fails. Only paid $35 bucks for it.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

I've had this router (WNDR3400 v1 I guess) for almost a year with no issues. Two weeks ago I got an update notification for new firmware (version 1.0.0.50_20.0.59) and I upgraded with ease.

I noticed several improvements and I was quite happy, but ever since I upgraded I started to have the issue of the blinking blue dome and is quite frustrating. I've tried everything and nothing seems to get rid of this very bright blinking.

Is downgrading the firmware the only solution?

Unfortunately you can not turn off the blue light anymore with the new .50 firmware. Put a piece of cardboard over it.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

I just put duck tape over the light. Seems that it blinks when some device is trying to connect to wps it stopped when I turned off SSID boradcast but some devices are annoying with SSID turned off so duck tape it was. Sad that you simply can't turn off that big blue light it is very annoying.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

I have had this problem with a 3300 for years. Maybe one day some brilliant engineer, a real geek, will invent something like a switch, with a lever, two positions, ON/OFF. Now wouldn't that be something?!?

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

+1. Used to be able to turn off dome light with a button press. Updated firmware, and now the dome light warms my living room with its warming glow. Which drives me nuts. Hope this gets fixed. Black construction paper, engaged.

Fixing WPS blue light dome blinking on WNDR3400 V2 series

To disable the WPS when this issue occurs, disable the SSID. Then reboot your computer. You will now have to manually input your id and password to access your network. Open your browser and router utility (Netgear Genie) and enable the SSID again. Your WPS willl remain off unless you turn it back on using the WPS wizard set up utility. You can now push on the router's WPS button and turn the light on or off.

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

Must be why I can find a lot of these 3400 routers in Goodwill stores. I just bought one for $7 and got it going right now. Saving my old Belkin in case this thing starts acting up. The light does not bother me as the router is across the room and it makes a good night light for getting up to go to the bathroom. Just another energy consumer. Reminds me of the old K Mart "blue light" special. Smiley Happy

Re: WPS blue light dome blinks on WNDR3400

I had my WNDR 3400 dual band router now for 1.5 years and I was able to disable the blue dome light but after I did a reset, the router dome blue light stays on after pressing a few seconds. Any solutions to this form the Netgear community?

What version of the WNDR3400 do you have?

Are you sure you reset only and didn't upgrade the firmware?

I have the WNDR3400v1 running Firmware Version V1.0.0.38_16.0.48
GUI Language Version V1.0.0.38_2.1.9.1 and I have no problem turning off the dome light. I don't see why you can't if you have the same firmware.
