D7800 Transfer Mode Menu Not available through Web Portal

Can anyone help in regards to assessing the Transfer Mode Menu when it is not visable through the web portal, as I have the NBN connected & want to setup the modem/router from DSL to VDSL connection (NBN)

Thanks.

Hi, welcome to the community!

Please make sure that the modem is on the latest firmware version found here. Can you please provide a screenshot of the page? Also, if you have ad blocking extensions for your browser, please try disabling them for the page.

Re: D7800 Transfer Mode Menu Not available through Web Portal

Good morning Dexter,

As requested, a screenshot of the issue is attached. Further, it does not matter which browser I use as result is the same even after turning off blocking extensions. I lost the function of the transfer mode more then 2-firmware updates ago.

The modem is currently in router mode as I'm piggy-backing it through ISP's supplied modem for Wi-Fi only. I am on the NBN & need a home phone at this stage but am looking at not using the phone and just solely using the Nighthawk to access the Internet.

I hope the information is of use?

Thank you,

Don.

Re: D7800 Transfer Mode Menu Not available through Web Portal

The screenshot shows no useful information that I can see. Just lots of white space.

Have you done a factory reset on the D7800?

I assume that your NBN variant is standard DSL (FTTN). Plenty of poor souls turn up here asking about NBN without providing a clear description of which type of NBN they have.

Re: D7800 Transfer Mode Menu Not available through Web Portal

Hi Dexter,

Sorry the screenshot didn't turn out correctly, I have attached a better photo. As you can see the Transfer Mode menu isn't visible but will flash-on & off very quickly when I try to change any setting on the page. Unfortunately, it won't stay visible long enough to change or access the settings. I have removed some of the information from the photo for security reasons as what I have found within community sites most responses from people just want you to provide information so they can remotely access/hack your computer.

In relation to the massage sent from michaelkenward, my NBN connection type is (FTTC, service provider is TPG) & I have performed a factory reset.

Its very frustrating dealing with so called 'community experts' & their politician type answers/comments. It is not helpful & doesn't provide any real solutions to peoples problems.

Thank you.

Re: D7800 Transfer Mode Menu Not available through Web Portal

I can now see the screen shot.

Your subject says "Transfer Mode Menu Not available". Why are you looking for that? Where did you get the instructions telling you to use that?

There is a support for the D7800, including a manual, somewhere at the end of this link:

>>> D7800 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<

You might do well to follow the  bit in the manual Manually Set Up an ADSL Internet Connection.

Do not bother with the Internet service provider. There is a good chance that Netgear has not wired this into the firmware. So get the login details you need and use those.

A quick look at your screen shot, and a scan of the at the TPG website, suggests that you are not providing the required login information.

Your first message also says:

"want to setup the modem/router from DSL to VDSL connection"

That does not make sense. VDSL is DSL. Maybe you mean from ADSL to VDSL.

Do you want help? If so, you have to provide information that can help to pin down what is going on. Posting useless screen shot is not a good start. Nor does it help to thow in baffling bits that donlt mean much.

You can reduce the number of "stupid questions" by starting off with better details.

You should know that this community is essentially a user-to-user venue with some input from a small band of Netgear techies, including @DexterJB .

Most of the answers come from fellow users who have no connection with Netgear. They just have a lot of collective experience and are familiar with the sort of problems that turn up here.

If you want "official" support then you should go through the right channels.

Re: D7800 Transfer Mode Menu Not available through Web Portal

Good morning Michael (Sensei),

Thank you for your lovely rude and non-informative response. If I was an expert "Sensei" I would not be asking help from 'teachers or instructors usually of Japanese martial arts'

I must apologise for not providing "better details" or "baffling bits that donlt mean much" If I had your "Sensei" abilities I would be able to call upon my inner Chi to find a solution to the problem.

With regard to all the advice I have received, I have followed the instructions provided and the Nighthawk is unable to connect. The web portal is reporting that an Internet connection is not available.

Once again thank you for your advice and insight regarding this issue, my advice to you is to continue your path towards enlightenment and follow these simple instructions "Rub your hands together for a few seconds. Close your eyes. Move your palms toward and away from each other, as if gently squeezing a small beach ball. Visualize the chi gathering between your hands" or put simply stay off those porn channels.

Rude?  Who's wasting everyone's time now?  What could be more
"non-informative" that your first screen shot?

> [...] If I was an expert "Sensei" [...]

Such ranks are assigned by the Forum software, and are not under the
direct control of the participants.  You would do well to waste much
less of everyone's time on such trivialities, and concentrate on the
actual problem(s).  If you're interested in finding solutions.

> [...] I lost the function of the transfer mode more then 2-firmware
> updates ago.

What are all of these firmware versions?  If some older firmware
version worked better, then why not reload that version, and try it?

My D7000 is stuck on "USA", so I can't easily experiment with the
settings related to your ISP, so I know nothing, but I can imagine that
when you specify "TPG" as your ISP, your D7800 believes that it already
knows the answer to the missing/disabled "Transfer Mode" question.  Have
you explored other ISP settings?

> [...] The web portal is reporting that an Internet connection is not
> available. [...]

What, exactly, is this "reporting"?  As usual, showing actual actions
with their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be
more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

What do the LED indicators indicate? ADVANCED > ADVANCED Home :
Internet Port : Show Statistics?  Is the DSL physical link bad, or is
the problem with something higher-level, like, say, bad PPPoE
authentication?

Any actual information might be more helpful than another
drivel-filled rant.
