Genie app breaking and causing PC freezes

I'm using the CD version of Genie that came with my AC1200 WIFI adapter and it and/or the adapter has occasionally stopped working completely. Phones will have WIFI, no problems on my internet app, but I'm suddenly unable to connect on my PC. If I go into the networks tab of the Genie program, or try closing it through the taskbar or manager, it stops responding and won't start again, which creates the bigger issue of being unable to close or restart my computer without doing a 3-second-power-button hard shutdown. This causes my BIOS settings to be reset, I need to back up anything I'm doing and pray it doesn't get corrupted, it's just a huge pain and this has happened twice now. I'll try installing the online version first, and if anyone knows of anything that might interfere with the Genie process being unable to close normally or cause it to freeze out of nowhere that would be much appreciated. I could've spent half the money on a long ethernet cable, but the adapter works great most of the time so I'm hoping there is some kind of fix.

Have you tried uninstalling everything and then just installing the standalone driver for it? Letting windows manage it?

No need to use the genie. Use Windows.
